Dropped off the Ranger today for the good ol transmission failure. 21 XLT with a few changes. Small tires, no towing. I've put about 20k miles on it since I got it in January but recently I've been unsure if it would make it out the drive way.

What sucks is I bought this truck because it was so cheap compared to everything else. Here I am about to dump who knows how much money into it. Could've just bought a new one but I guess we are in the thick of it now.

I recently got it tuned and that was probably the straw that broke the camels back. I'm still under powertrain warranty but I'm probably screwed out of that now. Should've just left it alone but I can't seem to help myself.

The service advisor was cool about it. I let him know that it's been flash tuned and that it's got the stock tune on it now. He said he "didn't hear that part" and it was all up to the warranty inspector. I'm next in line for the transmission techs so I'll hear soon enough. He was expecting at minimum a full rebuild if not a replacement.

The real kicker was when I went to pickup the loaner vehicle. They told me I had to be 21 years old which I won't be for another two months. Now I gotta figure out how to get around.

Just the usual stuff. The other morning it wouldn't shift into 2nd or 3rd then got stuck in 4th. Whenever you put it into drive the entire truck violently jumps. 5th is starting to leave the chat along with 2nd. I think the TC might be going out too, it shutters pretty good during lockup.

Mine is going in on the 28th for a transmission rebuild. I have the Ford Extended Warranty and was also tuned. They said they will make sure they write it up to be covered by warranty. Hopefully they do the same for you.

Did you have the Ford tune or other? Did you set it back to stock tune?

Maybe it’s as simple as a new EGR valve! Got mine for $150 from ford.

unleashed tune, no I left the tune in it.
So this is a gray area for me. If one has to have major trans work, can it be done with an aftermarket tune, or does it need to be reverted to stock first?

I reverted it back to stock. Not sure if it matters, I'd assume no matter what they would write the stock tune back on the truck with the new transmission.

I got a call the day after I dropped it off saying they started diagnosing and that it "should" be covered under warranty. It's now been a week since I've heard anything and I'm starting to get skeptical.

Welp today I got a surprise. After being ghosted for close to 2 weeks I got a call saying my truck was ready. I wasn't sure what the hell was going on but after some questioning they did a full rebuild under warranty. Went by after work this evening and after paying the $100 deductible I was on my way home. The adaptive learning still needs to settle but I don't think the truck has ever operated so smooth. Can't say I was happy with the process but I'm very happy with the outcome.

I was hoping the CPO would cover it for you. I've had two CPO fords but never had a major problem to test the warranty.
