Biting the bullet and replacing the windshield in my 2019 XLT SuperCrew.

Glass shop is asking if I want to pay the extra $250 CAD to have the SoundScreen windshield. When I asked why they said that is what your truck came with but couldn't explain any benefit between that and the replacement they quoted.

Any thoughts on this? Google and AI just feed me a load of incorrect BS.

It is a sound deadening windshield that dampens wind noise, making the cabin quieter.

I think most who have replaced the windshield have stayed with OEM not just for better quality but also the calibration of the IPMA may create issues and false alerts.

Now I have to go look and see if mine says that. I know it does have RANGER inscribed at the bottom center of it.

The only differences between the windshields and trims are:
Rain Sensing Wipers
Heated Wiper Grid (earlier production trucks) in the glass

You have to remember that the black mounting base for the mirror is attached to the glass and is included with it (for the most part this is the only different) what sensors are mounted to it.

Now a early production truck with the Heated Wipers will need the glass with the heated grid in the bottom half of the glass and a connector for it.

As far as I know all trims should have the Sound Deadening layer in between the panes

the sound screen glass is on all of them my 14 F150 had soundscreen glass as well- its printed on the glass thats ford OEM. I went aftermarket for that one - OEM were not available at the time and I personally noticed no difference the glass shop (large US chain) said the aftermarket ones were all OEM spec including the soundscreen. I did not notice a difference

Wow, after reading this and knowing I purchased a pickup and somewhat expect noise, a regular windshield will do. If I drove a BMW, Mercedes or something high end i would spend the $$$ but a Ranger? Nope.
But.. Modern windshields are generally made of laminated safety glass, a type of treated glass, which consists of, typically, two curved sheets of glass with a plastic layer laminated between them for safety, and bonded into the window frame. What is the difference that makes ford sound glass better? Personally, If i want less noise I'll turn my hearing aids down. LOL!!!

I have no personal experience, however a former boss and good friend, owned an Expedition and had a replacement aftermarket non-Soundscreen windshield installed. He said it was noisier to the point he replaced the windshield with an OEM Soundscreen. He did a lot of long distance driving and to him the difference was noticeable to the point he wanted an OEM windshield.

My wife was traveling with our '22 Escape and cracked a windshield. My insurance company auto connects with Safelite and I told them I want an OEM Soundscreen replacement. After a back and forth they agreed. When my wife got to her destination, Safelite installed an non-OEM windshield. Both my wife and the installer agreed there was significant distortion on both sides in front of the "A" pillars so the windshield was again replaced, this time with an OEM. My question is, do to window replacement companies push the cheaper glass IOT bill insurance companies for the more expensive OEM glass and pocket the difference when replacement glass is required? They would make more money by installing the cheaper non-OEM glass. The customer's out of pocket is same.

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
My experience, every damn one of them push the non-OEM glass. I never agree and always force “OEM.” Period.
Almost an annoying as car salesmen.

'20 XLT Supercab w/ Sport Package and I have a SoundScreen Windshield. Definitely noticeable to me. My cab is really quiet and I have NOT changed anything to affect road / wind noise like add damping to doors or ceiling. 75+ on the freeway and its crazy quiet.
