Watch this and never worry about your engine again and start worrying about your transmission like the rest of us.

Funny enough, shortly after watching this video my cyl 4 rod bearing went out In Oct 2024 (not joking). I was thinking good for me, 5k full synthetic oil changes too. It was just bad luck, cam bearings looked fine too. Point is, anything can happen to any vehicle. I still think the trans is the only thing to "worry" about.

If mine fails outside of extended warranty I will probably pay for a replacement since I like this truck and the motor being replaced at 50k miles. Unless the dealer has an MSRP Ranger Raptor on the lot when it happens...

So, Valvoline standard dino oil sucks.
My take was both engines made it farther than any I've owned. And I'm currently running full syn. with 5k changes.
Usually everything around the engine stars going to crap along with the rust, I just end up replacing the vehicle around 250k-300k miles.
Going to try to keep the rot away from this one, I really like my Ranger.

Did anyone tell you a possible reason for the bearing failure? Sounds like a freak thing given how many of these engines are out there.

There's a new TSB for that...
Took my truck in for that one.

The dealer said "No Problem Found"

The sky fell and hit me on the head right after I left the dealership.

Yeah, I am not at all worried. I use the Synthetic blend and I will never approach 500k.

Don't think it was the sky falling.....more likely one of these took a dump and thats what hit you....just something else to worry about now....falling elephant poop. Just another reason to keep your Ranger in the garage........

Used or new ATF works good for body rot and rust. Self spreading, it creeps and crawls all over inside doors, fenders, underneath. et al. Loaded with antioxidants etc.
It was used in North NJ with lots of salt on the road; 6 years no rust. Car was doused with ATF and allowed to drain on newspaper or cardboard overnite. Best thing since canned beer and sliced bread.
Semper Fi Mac.

So if I put some in each spark plug hole I won't have to worry about rust ??? :like:

The foreman said it was a freak incident, just bad luck. Nothing to do with towing or anything. He is a Ranger owner as well and said at their dealer this is the first Ranger they are doing an engine on for a bearing. Since the oil goes from the crank up to the cam bearings, those were ok so it was not starving for oil (bad oil pump). It started knocking under load was the symptom but cruising/low load it would knock. I am just happy it didnt happen while out of town towing.

My guess being a 2021 engine, maybe bad QC due to covid and people forcing things past QC. I know the computer industry I am in, I had a lot of bad RAM kits during that time and a couple other odd issues during stress testing. It is better now but honestly I feel things never fully recovered.

The new engine was a refurb unit. Foreman told me they use new internals but the block and/or head could be rebuilt. He said Ford never uses new engines for warranty unless it is something crazy within the first 30 days of being sold, something like that. I wont lie, I never checked oil levels since I did 5k oil changes, maybe the last tech to do the oil change some hundred miles before it happened under filled the oil.

I now check the oil when I get it back from the dealer, I check oil pressure on my Scan Gauge ii and I check it about 2500 miles on a 5k oil change.

Looks spun on the back side of the shell. The copper showing at the edge makes me wonder what that rod cap was torque to? I kinda want to say it was over torque, but I guess we'll never really know.

Grumpaw, rarely, RARELY do I disagree with you. But… I’m pretty sure a garage roof won’t even slow those suckers down.

I'm not sure why manufactures would chose a rubber belt instead of a chain. The GM baby max has a belt driven oil pump too. Doesn't take much to burn up an engine when it has no oil pressure.
I think the engine will shut down immediately if oil pressure drops.

50% ATF and 50% Acetone makes a great penetrating fluid for rusted nuts and bolts.
