Tow mode roughly 80% and Sport mode the other 20%. Some weeks other way around, but never Drive. It also disables the auto off so it was a bonus.

The stock shifting in Drive is HORRIBLE, clearly trying to meet some EPA guideline with normal drive.

Edit: I have 60k miles on my truck, trans fluid change at 30-35k, getting ready for another.

I use tow in when I'm in the mountains of WV where our retirement home is. It helps with engine breaking going down hill. Otherwise, I use drive, and sometimes sport if I need a ya ya.

But, my transmission still acts normal, so, there is that.

That's called the Unleased tune with @TORQUERULES shift strategy.

They have to prove the tune caused the failure, but I understand your concern.
No, not really, if they see I tuned it , they can send me away and I can't force them to fix it without hiring a lawyer... in the long run, maybe ?, but I'm too old for the long run of anything anymore...

Yup....recently posted about our mechanical problem cutting our trip with the camper short. Had to stop at the first Ford dealer for the warranty. With trailer still hooked up they knew it was an out of towner. Teck came out to diagnose via plug, and before he even started, first question he asked "is the truck tuned ?" Told him no (it isn't...still stock) and he went ahead, verified code, and found a malfunctioning blow off valve.
Story short...problem fixed along with loaner and no charge....but the fact they asked if tuned led me to believe work could have been turned down unless on my $$$.
So, you can/may argue all you want that tune didn't cause the problem, but dealer can still refuse work and send you on your way.
You can refute all you want, but if your out of town/visitor, and broke down, your up to the good/bad graces of the dealer.

I tuned mine with 87 performance canned tune from SCT. Never had a regret. Been tuned for 65k about.
You actually just answered the question that I was going to ask.

Pretty much, how does anybody with experience feel about an economy tune on 87.

How is shifting?
How is performance (maybe versus stock sport mode)

And this one is sort of redundant with shifting but overflows to performance:
How is the performance as far as it avoiding lugging around at ridiculously low RPMs?

I’ll be going with Livernois but I figure there will be some similarities

Hey Derek, ya asshole (? i’m going off of when I said you’re a good guy and you said no, I’m just an asshole! What can I say, it’s stuck in my head)

But on a serious note, what’s your experience, Derek? Thanks in advance!! ?

Anybody have experience with a similar set up on a Livernois tune?

Thanks!

(I think this is related enough, because I don’t mean to hijack)

I use tow mode any time I'm driving below 45 mph (unless I forget to turn it off when I get on a highway ?).

7th gear and 30 mph isn't a good combination with the 10R80 transmission.

I run the Livernois Tow/Haul tune 90% of the time. I’ve been tuned for 85k miles. I only use the Tow/Haul button when I’m actually towing. I also live in an a very flat area. I probably don’t change elevation by more than 50ft for months at a time lol.

Wow well to keep up what you think about me ill just say no…

But in all seriousness, the 87 econ tune was good for the transmission, slightly less luggy but definitely a duller pedal feel. It was for eco.

The performance tune is great, normal if you drive normally. Line pressure is obviously up a bit and the shift strategy is better. If I get on it, well it really goes. Feels like factory sport mode but only at full throttle.

Sport mode feels like the actual tune now, dials it up to 11. I dusted some old guy in a 3.5 ecoboost that couldn’t drive for shit earlier with a load of drywall from home depot. Wouldn’t get out of my way and I let him get the jump at a light, and by 40 I had him. At 80 he was gone. See still an asshole.

I would like to custom tune, but I have gone down that money hole with my diesels before. This is just enough with a few bolt ons.

?? fine, you’re an asshole and complete jerk :) I give up! lol

I have no doubt it was a condescending tone, because that’s the way it has to be!

Definitely useful info and that’s pretty bad ass to give the jump and still take the 3.5 down! Appreciate it !

Take it easy, my man

tow mode plus livernous tow tune as well
thoughts or comments? Livernois classified as a beast would you say? Or not quite…

i’m thinking tow, 87 Econ, 91 performance, 91 Street, and then E 85 bat shit crazy, as long as very small chance of any sort of ruining the motor

E 85
I did some research and saw that with exhaust, intercooler and charge pipes, high flow intake, and then perhaps an upgraded high pressure fuel pump and it’s possible to hit
425 RWHP and 450 to 460 RWTQ
I’m sure those are absolutely ideal situations but I would be happy if I could hit 380-390 RWHP 425 RWTQ on E 85 tune

I’d like to hit somewhere like 340 -350RWHP and 390 - 400 RWTQ with performance tune on 91, of course with the Boltons

I wouldn’t run an E 85 tune often, but when I would, I’d be looking for all of those guys just begging to race. All I do is give it a little bit of engine load and just let off immediately and the whoosh from the blow off valve immediately gets their attention and I immediately hear a downshift. Then it’s game on. But I try to limit it because I’ve already done wild things when I was 16 with my Mustang and sometimes I think it was just a matter of luck that I escaped any big big trouble

it’s like clockwork!

The beauty is that I have no interest going above 45 on these roads, and these trucks are pretty quick from 10 mph to 45 or so. Definitely pull on most vehicles… I’m not talking about an M4 or something but still I’m impressed!

The Sport mode shift strategy is garbage in that tune. Jerky not smooth and responsive, part throttle shifts are way too hard. It's like someone just turned up the line pressure and said, yep, that'll fking do.
Not sure if you are talking about the factory sport mode tuning or Unleashed. When I had Torrie tune the shifting of my Ranger it was only applied to the normal drive mode. Tow and Sport modes were not touched and still operate as they did when I bought the truck.

When I had Unleashed tune the shifting strategy of my truck I had him combine it with his 91 and 87 octane performance tunes. I have been running the 87 tune for a couple of years now and I am very satisfied with no desire to squeeze a few more HP out of the truck with a 91 or 93 octane tune. When I feel sporty I drive my 68 Barracuda or Hemi powered Hot Rod.

FWIW, Over the years I have even toned down the tuneup of the Barracuda in the interest of improved driveability.

When using tow/haul mode for every day driving does it effect gas mileage?
