I find my self in a situation where I can trade my 2019 Ranger XLT (with some nice add-ons) for a 2025 Ranger Lariat for roughly the same payment. Obviously I would be extending out my payment though.

I love my 2019. BUT, my 2 big concerns are the Transmission and the HVAC gear box issue. I have already had the transmission rebuilt at 30k miles, but I feel like it is starting to do the same things again.

Are those 2 issues fixed on the 2025? Are there any other well know issues with the 2025 that I should know (I understand that it hasn't been out that long!!).

Anything else I should consider?

It will all depend on how accurate the CarMax quote is. The 2 times I have used one of those services I hadn't had issues (they paid what they quoted online). But you never know until they look at it.

The bigger question for me though is still are those issues fixed in the newer models. I hate being paranoid about expensive repairs!

Their trade offer was low, which is why I am using CarMax. Even that is probably slightly low, but closer to what I expected. I already have the details from the Ford dealer on what they are charging me, and I am good with the offer.

I know not to buy based on payments, but with that said, the bottom line for me in pulling the trigger was if I could fit it in my monthly budget. That doesn't negate getting a good deal though at a price that I can live with. Right now they are offering employee pricing, which helps as well.

If you want the maximum for your Ranger, then sell it on the street. Seriously, when I purchased my Ranger, I had a 10 year old Tacoma. The Ford dealer offer $15,500 for it on trade and I sold it for $21k in one weekend on Offer Up. I would list on Offer Up and Facebook Marketplace.

This really comes down to wanting a new truck. Repairing your current Ranger would be way cheaper than buying a new one. New vehicles are really expensive. What is the doc fee and the sales tax on the new vehicle? I would not be surprised if that is most of the cost of transmission rebuild at a private shop.

The doc fee is $85. Sales tax is (obviously) standard for my area.

With that said, we are getting away from my original question. I don't need advice on how to buy a car. I appreciate that comments, but I'm looking for answers on if the issues I am concerned about have been addressed.

Maybe I'm wrong but if your hvac box hasn't warped yet maybe you got a good one. If you have the money for a trans repair it would probably be cheaper in the long run to keep it BUT with a new truck you don't have to worry about anything for five years/60K.

The new rangers have the 10r60, I have one in my bronco an it's lightyears smoother than the 10r80 in my '19 ranger. If something happened to the bronco I'd take a serious look at the new ranger.

I just traded my 2019 XLT for the 2025 lariat and I love it. The transmission is much more responsive than the old one. And all the bells and whistles that come along with lariat are fantastic. They gave me $24,000 in trade on my old truck. It had 51,000 mi on it. It needed tires it needed brakes and I hit a deer with it and never repaired the front not bad. The infotainment system is spectacular wireless Android Auto. I can't say enough good things about this truck.

Yeah, CarMax is offering me $24,000 as well. I have 47,000 miles. If I am being super honest, the Infotainment system is part of the reason I really want this!

I am opting for the 4x2 instead of the 4x4, which is what I have now. That means I will have the 2.3 instead of the 2.7. But I have never had any complaints on my current 2.3 so I think that will be fine.

If you are going two wheel drive get a rear locker, they work very well.

Similiar boat. Have my 2020 Lariant and just ordered a 2025 Lariat. Love my 2020 but the new 25 has some nice features and the desert sand color that sold me. Getting similar deal where my payments worked out slightly less than what I'm paying now (thru my credit union), just extending those payments. Test drove the 25 and it was a way smoother ride than my 20 so that was the final selling point.

I traded my 2022 on the 2025, I am really happy with the choice, lot's of feature that come with the 2025 that were not available on the 2022 (easy exit for example, great if you are tall). My advice, it's your money, you earned, spend it as you like, die with memories, not with dreams!

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
Keep your current Ranger and get out from under the payment sooner, versus adding another 5 years of debt obligation. Then save that amount of money each month.

Added bonus? Nice looking truck versus a baby 150 clone!
