Finally got my Ranger back from warrantied transmission repair. Is this what has been the common issue?

Not the response I was hoping for from Ford:

"
Hello,

I hope all is well. This is Lucie with Ford Motor Company. I just wanted to send an email over as I do understand we followed through with a feedback case pertaining to your dealership. I do see you gave a call in and spoke with my colleague asking if the dealership has gotten back with me after advocating on your behalf and yes, they did. Jeff responded with the below:

I have already spoken to Mr. Voss his vehicle does not qualify for the TSB it was not the issue with the truck. As you know, per Ford guidelines you cannot do a TSB unless the vehicle qualifies for it. Mr. Voss states that his vehicle is fixed and running fine there is no reason to bring it back in.

I definitely tried to advocate on your behalf as much as possible, but I can’t authorize the dealer to do anything. If they are advising that your vehicle does not qualify for the TSB then they are most likely correct as we are able to see that information under your VIN. I do sincerely apologize as I understand this has caused frustration but please feel free to reach me if any questions. Thank you again for being a part of the Ford family.

Respectfully,

Lucie
Ask them ( Ford) for an extended warranty on the transmission if they’re so confident in their dealer doing the right thing. Doesn’t hurt to ask

Sadly I had a hunch that would be the outcome, I think that if the tech knew about the common failures of the CDF he would have been more inclined to inspect it when it was apart , I have a feeling it was not touched as this is deeper into the tear down, I suspect they found the first spot of failure in the tear down and stopped and went no deeper.
So it’s good and bad , it drives fine now but it’s a gamble on if the CDF will eventually fail - it would have been great for a preventative action to just replace it when it was apart- but sadly this did not happen and as of now will not happen unless they can prove it’s failed via testing.
Sometimes common sense needs to be taken into account as it will cost more to tear into it again later down the road but the good news of that is now you can advocate for a new transmission vs 2nd tear down.

I’m pretty sure the tech “touched” the CDF drum seeing that per the parts list he replaced all the C,D and F friction discs and the C steels. Unless I’m missing something then that’s pretty incriminating along with his admission of “he thought it was the updated one”. Which then makes this even sadder. I hope the OP is able to get some sort of extended coverage for them missing this seeing that he’s right at the 5/60 limit.

From my research, its one of the first things to come out of the trans during teardown. He also said they have to do full teardowns to inspect every piece for damage so he definitely handled it.
I am now not getting a response from the Ford rep after asking them to escalate this issue

@TannerVoss1231 Did you actually state this to the service dept if so, the boat is kinda sunk at the moment, however it seems as though you wouldn't be here if you told them that you were satisfied with their repair. This type of situation can be rather difficult to navigate (he says you say). I would without a doubt take it to another dealer at this point, my assumption is that the current dealer is worried of a chargeback for the previous repair and now that Ford is calling, they maybe stating things to CTA so to speak. If that is the case that is a dealership I would not want to work on my vehicle. That would be a talking point with Ford.

I'm afraid I may be in this same boat. I've already had 2 warranty repairs (valve body and CDF).

Truck was fine for about 25-30K miles and now it's sluggish again and I'm noticing more odd shifts (mainly abrupt downshifts). I felt like the sluggishness went away with the valve body repair the first time, but now I'm wondering about my CDF.

I was going to take it back anyway (I have about 10K on my warranty left) but now I'll be sure to double check the prior papers and verify if they repaired or replaced my CDF.

Long story short, if you've had both parts of the TSB performed.....you're not necessarily out of the woods! Like I said....mine was good for about 25K miles and now somethings up again.

Nevermind the fact that when I called back in November (before these issues came back) to extend my warrantly (solely because of this POS transmission), FMC told me I had to wait until 70K miles (mine was at about 60 at the time and is up at 75K) to extend....and then in the meantime, I read on here that FMC recently made a change and you can no longer extend beyond 60K miles? If that's the case, and on top of the transmission nightmare itself, Ford f'd me in another hole.

And silly me planned to own this truck 10+ years. Good times.

Double check your paperwork. I had three steps done before they replaced my transmission.
1.Reflash
2.Clean valve body
3. Replaced valve body
4. Replaced transmission

Guys, with this being the latest Ranger tranny post I will add to the info presented.

Have a 2022 (January vintage) Lariat. At about 70K miles the transmission went out. Wyatt Johnson in Nashville, TN is where I purchased with extended warranty. These guys were able to pull up the tranny info online to see that it had crashed. So, I received a "remanufactured transmission".

Now, about 1K miles later, there is a hesitation, some unnatural gear shifts, tranny fluid on the garage floor, etc.

The real kicker is below. Notice the shift is in P while the dashboard says R! If I move around the shift it drops into P.

Continuing from above, this morning my Ranger hesitated when I needed to move fast. This is a dangerous problem IMO.

I did reach out to the dealership. The quickest transmission service is three weeks out.

It may be I should trade the truck in and let the dealership sort this out. Any thoughts?

Whats the point of buying an extended warranty if you don’t use it? I would let them fix it before you decide what to do. Trading for another truck is the most expensive outcome you can have.

Take it back and have them fix it.
In my opinion.
