My observation...

The world operates on a bell curve... I think that bell curve holds true in every aspect / strata of humanity. Sectarian or Religious, Democrat or Republican, Educated or Uneducated, Rich or Poor.

I am convinced that ~80% of the population are what I call "opportunists". If they can get away with doing something illegal or immoral, they will do it. as long as they are sure their tracks are covered and they won't be held responsible.

~15% are genuinely honest good people, and can't be bought.

~5% are evil, and know no limits. They have no conscience, and feel no remorse.

I also believe that people can and do move in and out of these categories. Life is messy.

I am not sure if this makes me pragmatic, or something worse. But I work very hard to try to be in the 15% category. I am not perfect, but it doesn't mean that I should not stop striving to be someone better.

Christ calls us to desire mercy over judgement, and forgiveness over condemnation. That my friends is a tall order. And far too often I find myself on the wrong side of the equation... but I keep trying...

( I think the Easter holiday is still with me just a little bit. )

Ah the things we remember. Long time ago, 3rd stall in the barracks of a certain unit on Ft. Hood, TX. Written above the toilet paper holder, black marker, excellent penmanship.

It read:

This is John Wayne toilet paper.
It’s rough.
It’s tough.
And it don’t take shit off nobody.

Thanks for the chuckle. And for jogging my memory with your “stall” comment! I couldn’t help but chuckle back in Hood, and I’m chuckling again now.
