I recently bought a 2019 Ranger and love it. The fuel economy is ok. It uses about a half tank weekly just driving to work and back about 3 miles each way. Does this seem excessive? 2.3 liter four cylinder, four wheel drive.

You'll notice that it uses more fuel during the short trips due to it over fueling while warming up. I strongly suggest taking some longer trips 10+miles during the weekend to help with the fuel in oil issue. That being said my percentage of fuel in oil has remained between 3 - 6% even with track usage.

It looks like your truck isn’t getting up to temperature which could cause carbon build up, exhaust wear, and fuel in oil. As Sarge said, take it on a longer trip every week (greater than 10 miles, 35+ to really get the oil past boiling temp) and report back.

Also, I’d recommend a high quality full synthetic oil if short trips are going to be the main usage for this truck.

Ok. Thanks for replying.

Ok,I plan on switching to Mobil one full synthetic. I'm sure the dealership put Motorcraft semi synthetic in it. Thank you.

If I drive like an asshole (which I do sometimes) I get about 17.5mpg and if I drive like a granny I can get around 21mpg (both in-town numbers). Typically I drive like an ordinary dude in his 40s who is not in a hurry and get around 19. At those numbers, with your reported commute length, I think you should use less than half a tank per month driving to and from work once per work day for a full month.

I am out in the middle of no where LOL my shortest trip is walfart 30 miles round trip
my whole life I have used Mobil one full synthetic, but the last one I went with AM$oil, LOL I think everyone $hould try it once! I have about 40k on that, when I change it maybe sometime this year at 50k I am going back to Mobil one full synthetic, I do change the filter every 10K and its probably due for new Plugs too :)
over all after 2 years of owning this thing I have about $200 a year into repairs Lower Hose and a Tie Rod, I am happy with that and the MPG, and I drive it like I stole it! If I get 250k out of it I will buy another one, if not next time I will go with a F150 Raptor, any one major failure engine or tranny this thing gets towed to the scrap yard! I got almost 300k each out of two Explorers so this better reach 250k! (both had tranny failures)
so far so good, it still looks and drives like new :)
