that's only a temporary fix. honestly keep an eye on it and get them to replace the transmission at the slightest hint of harsh engagement
I definitely will

Because I have had some random clunky shifting in the 3-4-5 range, and specifically into and out of 8th gear, I abandoned my 2021 XLT to the local Ford dealer for the most recent TSB diagnostic. God help me, I'm actually afraid over this. 45K miles on it and so still under warranty, which helps a bit, I guess. Truly hope I've done the right thing and not have let my paranoia get the better of me.

Service writer says Ford allows for 10 days to try and diagnose, and if something is at issue to also fix if parts are available. Sounds sort of reasonable. BUT...if nothings wrong I'm on the hook for the diagnostic fee of $199, and 10 days worth of rental fees at $45/day. If it goes beyond 10 days even if something needs repair, I'm still on the hook for the rental fees past that unless I go directly to Ford and make my case for them to pay while I wait for parts, etc. Not happy about that part.

Just like everyone else dealing with this, I'm on pins and needles hoping for the best outcome for my truck. Feel free to console (or ridicule) as you deem necessary.

This is my rental Bronco Sport. I don't think I'm gonna be a fan based on the drive home.

The diagnostic test in the TSB calls for 1 hour. If there’s nothing detected in the test you should know the first day and only be on the hook for that day and the $199 ( but that’s even sketchy). Or are they planning on waiting for the 9th day to do the test?? ???

Good question.
I had to leave it in hopes the transmission mechanic can see it soon, but they were unable to carve out a specific hour for my appointment because of the backlog of cases he already had...supposedly.
Hopefully they see it tomorrow and it'll work out like you said.

I've never driven one myself. I figure they are a good family hauler. They share the same platform as the escape and maverick. The lab I drive for has an escape. The turbo 3 is ok for what it is. The escape is 3 years old an has 98K on it. It gets driven pretty hard since none of the drivers own it lol. So far just oil changes an a brake job.

Best of luck Chris. Mine is still behaving itself since fluid change and LubeGard. I'll never liked the shift points, but they have been smooth now for 8K miles, I changed the filter when I installed the PPE pan and it had a slight dusting on the cream cover, very fine but there.

Did you try drinking 2 shots of lubegard before taking it in ? Supposedly good to relieve any 10r80 and dealership angst ?

Hope things work out ok, I'd be a tad perturbed that one can't schedule a day to drop it off and know they will work on it that day, esp since you are paying for a rental.

A tad perturbed.
Yes, that.
I asked several times about that and the service writer swears they couldnt.

I thot that comment was aimed at me!!! I still think my reply tad funny!

Nope! But I did down my fair share of Gaviscon, and GasX!

I still have PTSD over i though... keep wondering when the nightmare will return. Wife advises me to unload it while it still running great. But I have gone too far down the rabbit hole! Her fav vehicle is still the 2005 Ranger. She won't let me sell it.

Really Chris, I hope it works out well for you. I <<hate>> dealerships!

Thanks, Tony.
The goal is only to catch something before it goes bad wrong, but while I'm still under warranty. Is it wrong that I hope they find something and have to replace it all? I don't want my truck to be defective as I really like it and don't want to have to dump it and find something else.

That’s exactly what you want. There are known issues with it . If you have the chance to catch it and update it under warranty why wouldn’t you? I probably would have just kept driving mine with it’s quirks for who knows how long ( maybe beyond warranty) but knowing that there was an issue and having a remedy for it I decided to let them handle it. I was fortunate enough to have a good dealer that got it replaced with a new one and it’s been great since.
