I have eaten turnips my whole life & never had them mashed. Anything special you do to them that you can share?
I make them almost the same way as I would mashed potatoes. I do add a couple of potatoes and some carrots. not much though. The potato to thicken. and the carrot for color.

We add the carrots to turnips also. Just found a rutabaga for our Christmas dinner to boil up and mash with carrots. Can't believe you still have fresh peppers. ?. Merry Christmas everyone.

I'm 63, never married. So, no kids. Extended family is either dead or ignores me for one reason or another. So, it will my house mate the cat and maybe my younger brother. I'll spend the day cooking. Turkey, sausage stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce (yes, I make homemade) corn, mashed turnups, mashed potatoes, gravy. All for 2-3 people.
Yeah, me too. Well, I'm married but no kids, and I guess we do have family on the wife's side, but they don't count. ;)

I too make my own cranberry sauce, and do 99% of the cooking. We always put on a big spread, but more of a finger food day to graze, not a sit down dinner.

Friday yet?

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
I've got a 5 year-old that checks on his odds of getting a radio-controlled crawler truck for off-roading about twice every day. And oh, dad, did you use enough stamps on my Santa letter?

I'll be up at 4:30 and will be greeting the sun with my boy and his new truck ?
That right there is the absolute highlight of all Christmas memories!!!!!!! My kids have long since grown up so it's been a long time. But I still vividly remember the early Christmas mornings with kids excited beyond words. Just the best. Truly.

Enjoy it now. They grow up so stinking fast.

A number of people have passed away in my family the last few years including my dad and some of the younger folks have gotten married and have other extended family now so arrangements are getting somewhat different.
My side of the family traditionally celebrates on Christmas Eve, which we will do at my mom's house. Me, my wife, both my kids and their spouses, granddaughter, my sister (my BIL passed away last year), and possibly my cousin (her husband passed away).
Christmas Day we are invited to my wife's brother's house a couple counties away, he's about the only family she has left.
Stuff happens. Life goes on.
For like 50 years we all got together with the same people in the same places, now over the last three years there's a whole lot less of us.
We adapt and appreciate the time we have together.

We are having two Christmas'. 1.0 will be at our house with our immediate family. We are having crab legs ($7.49/lb!) and steak bites for appetizers, and lasagne for the main course, plus a myriad assortment of side dishes and deserts. Fupbauw will be on with the sound muted. Monday night, Kristi and I have maintained a tradition of watching White Christmas during the holidays, so I'll record the Packers-Saints game to watch afterwards.
Then, 2.0 on Christmas Eve, we will go to our daughters' church for the afternoon service- very musical and joyous- then we will be at our niece's with the whole famdamily. They have a house large enough for the 30-odd of us all, and acreage for all the grand-cousins, ranging in age from 4 to 20.
It is getting tougher to plan family holidays these days, with the adult children married and needing to spend some time with their in-laws.
I have come to appreciate the folks who work out the schedules for MLB!

Sliced meatloaf on lettuce with a side bowl of peas.......
We eat sitting next to the Festivus Pole and insult each other.
Burping and farting is allowed during the meal, and is encouraged....

This Christmas will just be my wife and my stepson with a Lasagna dinner. My other stepson lives in Australia and they are taking the grandkids to Fiji. Both of our parents have passed so the gatherings have gotten smaller. It is still Christmas and we have each other so I can't complain at all.
Merry Christmas to our Ranger 5G family.

Wife and I will be going to her mom's place. I like my in laws and with my health I'm thankful for the time to spend with them.

Give your loved ones a hug you never know if it's the last Christmas gathering you'll get to attend. Life changes in an instant.

There is some snow on the ground and more expected tonight, so it seems like a white Christmas is in the cards. We’re still finishing up some of the small details related to our move - almost done! Much of the holidays will be spent painting a room or two on the lower level and building custom closets in the spare bedrooms. Mrs. DukeCanBuildit will do some traditional Boxing Day shopping - likely for furniture and artwork. ??? Oh, the joys of moving into a new place.

Tomorrow, I’ll visit my father-in-law at his retirement condo and the day after, Mrs. DukeCanBuildit and I will celebrate the first Christmas in our new place. It will be a quiet day, followed by a nice dinner on the couch, by the fire because our new dining chairs don’t arrive until January. ?

Merry Christmas everyone.

Christmas is just around the corner, and we can already feel the festive vibes in the air! ?✨ Whether you're planning a cozy movie marathon at home, decorating your vehicle with Christmas lights (yes, we see you, vehicle mod fans!), or hitting the road for a snowy adventure, we want to hear all about it!

Do you have a quirky family tradition, like matching pajamas or epic gingerbread house battles? Or maybe you're decking out your truck with reindeer antlers and a red nose for a holiday parade? Share your plans, funny stories, or even pictures of your Christmas prep!

Let’s make this thread sparkle with festive cheer! ??
My immediate family of 17 come to our home for a Raclette meal, then reading the Christmas Story of Jesus’ birth, then Christmas Presents time! We decided to draw names this year, spending no more than 50$ with the gift, as we have a large immediate family. This year we’re going to one of my son’s home as ours was badly damaged in Hellene, and still being restored, uninhabitable . My wife and myself stayed with a son until something came open close to home. All is well as we weren’t injured on that scary early morning calamity!! We’re happy!!
