I saw Tucker Carlson grocery shopping in Russia. The cart there had a coin operated lock on it. You deposited a dollar coin in them, and got your money back when you returned the cart to the cart bin.
Korea used coin cart locks for many years. Needed a 100 won ($0.07) coin to release the cart from the stack. They became an inconvenience as everyone began using credit cards and found they had no coins... and no change machines available.

I've also seen before where they have a token about the size of a coin, for which you had to pay. The end result is the same-you need the token to take the cart, and have to return it to get the token back-but it could be a more viable option in today's more cashless society.

I have a somewhat reoccurring nitemare where I come out and my truck is parked in a spot similar to that, and buggies are slowly but surly rolling towards it because it's not only a door ding on both sides plus possibly front end damaage spot, it's also the spot that is the lowest elevation so everything in a 360 degree radius zeros in on me and i have to go around the truck Ninja kicking buggies away screaming (in a Ninja accent)about how thin ? the sheet metal is on my Ranger! I usually wake up the instant just before one makes contact ... anybody else have that dream ?

Even when I park in an isolated area to prevent scratches why do vehicles seem to have a need to park right next to me? Yesterday at my physical therapy session an F150 squeezed up right next to me when there were plenty of other open lanes... :explode:

i used to worry about this until a motorcycle commanded by my uncle ran into my truck.

now i don't worry about door dings. i give door dings.

don't worry fellas, never to a fellow ranger. if i see one of you parked out on your lonesome, i'll park to your side with plenty of berth. the more dinged up and POS-lookin my truck is, the less likely anyone will be to come near us.

i got this dudes!

(for legal purposes i must state that the above is satire and i do not seek to door ding anyone -- the only truthful part of the above post is that i stopped caring as much about where i parked after sustaining damage to my front hood)

This is my old F150 that my father-in-law still drives.

It looks worse now now than when I had it 20 years ago, but not much worse.

IMG_1044.jpeg

NOBODY ever parked next to it because they KNEW you didn't care.

It was about as WalMart proof as you can get.

It was and still is a great old truck.

300 inline 6, 4 speed manual with granny first, 4x4, and dual fuel tanks (it needed them!).

Not pretty but as reliable as the sun as there was not a whole lot to go wrong.

Its that whole good person shopping cart test.

If you return the cart there is no reward
If DO NOT return the cart there is no punishment.
Its your character, by not returning the cart you are proving a lazy piece of s%$#, not being kind to your fellow kin. Thinking only in yourself and what benefits you. Nobone sees you, but your true character shines.
If you return the cart, it also shows your true character. Not only do you pick up after tourself but you are helping move the cogs in the wheel. You leave the parking lot clean and organized so the next fellow can do his job as well.
Job interviews should be conducted on cart returns

There were some kids on YouTube "cart narcs" I believe, that went around and confronted (sometimes dangerously) these very people that don't return carts to the proper areas ... VERY funny and entertaining the lengths and excuses these assbags go to sometimes to justify their laziness while the cart narcs are relentless in making their point, some give in and return the cart, most drive away VERY ANGRY ? ? ? ? ...

Many, many, (many,) moons ago I was that kid picking up all those carts folks would leave in the neighbor's yard. Don't know why you would - but if you ever want to lose a little faith in humanity, hang out in a supermarket shopping lot for a half hour.
A little?

Damn, some people are mentally disturbed! She spent more time arguing with him than it would've to just put the cart back. lol

And of course this was in....Florida ?‍♂

Wow, what a shame reading some of these post lol there is a guy on YouTube that is some kind of body builder. He dresses like a mob dude and pressures people to put their carts away. You guys may enjoy watching lol

I mentioned in another thread, I try to park right next to the cart coral.
Nobody brings carts back so the chance of getting dinged are less.
