If not mistaken I believe 33's fit in the factory location. Bigger then that and you will have to relocate it

Actually, my 265 70 R17 got stuck in the factory location for the spare on my 2020 XLT 4X4. I am looking at options for my 285 70 R17. They certainly don't fit in the spare location.

That would be a 32. Perhaps something else happened without you realizing?

I have a 285/75r17 in my stock location and have zero issue. It hangs fine and lowers with ease.

As for the hitch carriers, I've been thinking a lot about them because I do plan on jumping up to 35" tires next year when I need new tires. I struggle with their cost and I hear they rattle a lot. The one you linked, does it swing out of the way so you can open the tailgate? That would be a non-started for me.

Yes, it swings left and right, so the tailgate can be opened depending on how tall your tire is resting on the ground.

The link will take you to the hitch and a video of it being used.

A 285/70/17 does fit in the factory location. I was able to fit one with the factory spare wheel, as well as with my current Method wheels. I picked up a Rigd Supply Ultraswing last year that I am possible going to sell. Nothing wrong with the unit, but opening the tailgate the vehicle has to be straight and parked on level ground. If not my 33 hits the tongue box that I even installed offset to try and combat this.

Depending on price, I’m interested.

This is what I like about this forum, is the comradery. This discussion is leading me to try again to fit the 285s in the factory location. I disliked the spare wheel so much I ordered and mounted an OEM rim for my spare. The original OEM spare wheel is available to anyone that might want it, no cost just pays for shipping.

@Nopalito might be interested in the wheel. He's *relatively* local to you too.

When you raise the spare tire up, just use your non-tool spinning hand to pull it towards the back of the truck. Once tight against the bed, it will stay in place and that should give you all the clearance you need to fit it.

I will certainly try this. Having a spare under the truck is not something I am a fan of, but like my F550, a remote spare tire location is always an option for me.

In my previous Rangers' I had extra rims from the spares so I bought extra wheels and rims and created a cheap set of street tires to switch from my off-road tires when I do my interstate travels. I did this with my newest Ranger, too, with extra rims and mounted my original Hankook tires on them.

Thanks for the referral to, @Nopalito.

We should still set a meet with some Colo Rangers now that I am back from my summer Yellowstone gig.

If he’s just up in Boulder, that’s almost closer than you are.

Unfortunately I see myself selling this locally as the unit weighs a lot, and I am sure boxing it back up to ship will be costly.

I’ve got people who drive to Florida regularly. Don’t count me out. ?
