Hey guys,

Have a 2019 ranger, trying to get a tac hooked up but I can't figure out were to connect the green wire for the RPM.
I have looked all around the internet and everyone says its a yellow/ tan wire, well not on 2019. I even took out the cluster and nope, its not there. So can anyone please tell me what wire I can tap into for the RPM? I would prefer to wire it under the dash if possible and not have to go under the hood. any help would be great. Also please explain in detail as I am a complete noob and this is my first project. thanks in advance!

Doesn't your Ranger already have a Tachometer? There will be no way to connect a single wire to get a signal for your Tachometer. You will need to get a device that can plug into the OBD port to communicate with the PCM to get engine RPM information.

last time I checked, yes "it already has a tac". like I said, this is a noobie project. " There will be no way to connect a single wire to get a signal for your Tachometer", thats nonsense. the PCM is sending the single threw some wire to get to the cluster correct? then there is a wire I can tap into, you just don't know which one it is, which makes me wonder why you even bothered to reply. anyone else?

Yes - The Tach Data - comes from the Crank Pos Sensor and the PCM reads this and sends the data over the HS-Can 1 Bus, the GWM then transmits that over the HS-Can 3 data bus to the IPC.
There is no direct connection (for RPM data) in the Ranger IPC cluster.

Owners who want extra gauges - Boost, Oil Press Etc and want it displayed on an extra gauge you have to tie into the OBD -Port and use the - CAN-BUS data that you would see if hooking up a scanner, except you are setting the gauge up to only display specific PID data parameters.

ok so, nevermind the cluster then, I should be able to pop the hood and tap into the Crank Pos Sensor wire? can you please explain to me where the Crank Pos Sensor wire is?

It's not nonsense. There is no wire to tap into, everything is computer controlled and the RPM data comes from the PCM. You need a device to connect to the OBD port to communicate with the PCM to get the RPM data. The RPM is not a voltage signal in your Ranger. The instrument panel tach gets its info from the PCM through a communications network. So no, you won't be able to connect the tach that you are describing.

This is a VREF circuit - tapping into the VREF circuit will induce faults, there is not a direct RPM data signal to tap into - the signal return to the PCM is (inferred data) - the PCM converts that signal to RPM data and sends the info along the MS-CAN 1 Bus, the GWM reads that data and routes the RPM data along the HS-CAN 3 bus to the IPC.
There is no direct wiretap for the info you want.

Your tach signal wire will interfere with the CPS and it is not compatible with your tach. You should send your tach back, as this will not work with your truck.

ah, I see. thanks for taking the time to explain. All the gauges on Amazon say " ODB2". would these work, or does it have to be ODB (1)?

ok cool, thanks again for taking the time to explain, I appreciate it.
Depending on what OBD II device that you purchase, assuming it has a programable display screen, you can monitor other parameters such as oil pressure, engine temperature, transmission temp., etc., as all these and more parameters are available on the OBD port.
