I just completed a two week trip with 3 days work in the middle going to Roseburg Oregon for 3 days to stay with a friend who finally built his house on 2.5 acres and help him out. Then on to Maupin Oregon for some white water rafting on the Deschutes River for 3 days. The falls is Sherars Falls and is Indian territory henbce the fishing platform and we have to pull out of the river as the falls is deadly if you raft it. Awesome time and great weather missing all the Oregon forest fires and smoke in the process. Then to work for 3 days then on to Netarts Oregon and 5 days of crabbing(bummer no keeper crabs we only caught females) and relaxing on the beach and agate hunting at Oceanside and Tunnel Beach. There is a tunnel through the hill to reach a great agate hunting area at low tide. The first pictures are from Maupin and the Deschutes River the others are from Netarts, Oceanside and Cape lookout. I did forget I stopped by the Tillamook Forestry Center. Pretty cool on the Wilson River where I used to dirt bike lots in my younger days.

Wow, what a great place to get away from it all. Very nice!
I am very lucky Duke as it's 1.5 hours to the beach and 2 hours to the mountains and 3 hours to the desert. We don't get hurricanes or tornados or 3-4 feet of snow or humidity. It does rain but that feeds the streams, rivers and lakes I like to hike at and raft and camp at.

Beautiful pictures Mark and glad you had a nice trip! I was meaning to PM you about it yesterday and got caught up with a few things and well, had a brain fart and forgot. I know last year you were helping us plan a trip up that way but moving ended up canceling that trip, we really want to get up there and see that part of the country. Sounds like a really nice spot without any extreme weather year round.

When I lived in Vancouver (BC, not WA), I would get down to Portland once in while but didn’t get to see any other parts of the state. A racing buddy of mine lived in McMinnville but I never got down there. What I did see was as nice as anywhere in the PNW - but, you don’t get that kind of scenery without a bit of rain.

After living in the sandbox I mean Arizona for the past 9 years the greenery is welcomed! After traveling around the past few summers one thing we really missed (besides normal temps) was seeing something other than brown! I never thought I'd miss the greenery when I left MA but I did. Even though we get a good amount of rain here it's a nice change from the relentless heat and sun. It's been a perfect balance between sun/clouds and many cool days where the AC wont run at all for days. These past 4 days have been a little more humid than normal but mornings are nice and after tomorrow we have another great 7+ days ahead of us.

Gorgeous! I'm happy for you that you had the opportunity.

You post sparked some curiosity in me; what is the procedure for white water rafting? Do you need two people with two trucks? I can picture everything up until you get in your boat and sail away from your truck. How do you get back!?

Thanks and glad you had fun.

What! Only two digits in the temp! How do you stand it, you wearing sweaters? ?
On that 59 degree morning I'll be digging through boxes looking for this! ?

Well Adam normally we have a large group of people and three rafts. Each raft has between 4 and 7-8 people. We also just have one person paddling (the captain) which is nice. If you rent or go with a large group everyone paddles normally but you can rent with one set of oars. Not for me. LOL. I actually don't have any pictures of our rafts. We do have to shuffle vehicles. We go up river about 8 miles and raft down to downtown Maupin where we stay at the city park and have lunch then we go down river about 16 miles until we have to pull out due to the major falls/rapids Sherars Falls. We need a vehicle or two at the bottom to bring the boats and people back to camp. Box Car is one of the fun rapids that the Deschutes is famous for.
Here is two examples Adam. On the right is us usually the left with guides.

We had Christmas In Netarts Bay last year. Stayed at Happy Camp Hideaway, it was great. Also a bit creepy seeing all the people with headlamps on at night wading through the sea, not sure what they were fishing for, razor clams maybe?

@MXGOLF - that makes a ton of sense. In my mind you were by yourself, hah. I've done A -> B hikes before that required some planning and folks driving to the "B" point to drop off vehicles and I was picturing something like that! Thanks for the breakdown.
