My tires are a mess. Usually I have no trouble cleaning them but now I can’t get them clean. Can’t tell if it is dirt that stained the tires or tire dressing residue.

I have used Wesleys Bleche White, Simple Green, and solvents. I have tried pressure washing and scrubbing. Even used a brush on the end of a drill and scrubbed away. No luck.
I have heard that Mothers Back to Black Tire Renew is a great product. I can’t find it locally but can find Mothers Back to Black Tire Cleaner. Went to Mothers site and can’t find the tire renew listed. Did Morhers change the name? Are they the same product?

anything else I should be trying.
Thanks

Mark
I have the handbooks and I use chemical guys Diablo gel wheel cleaner and a curved tire brush when washing then I treat the tires with chemical guy Tire Kicker extra glossy tire shine. Never turn brown

I recently swapped my factory wheels back onto my Ranger and after they sat in my garage for the past four years, there was a ton of “browning” on the sidewalls. More than I’ve ever seen on my truck’s tires. If you don’t regularly clean your tires when you wash your truck, you probably have a bit of this and wondered what causes it, how do I get it off my tires, and how can I keep it from coming back?

What causes it?
The common thought is that it’s caused by tire dressings but it’s called antiozonant and it’s added to your tires‘ compound.

“Tires bloom because antiozonant pushes its way to the outer edge of the rubber casing with time. As the element comes into contact with oxygen, it leaves a brown residue on the surface of the tire. Antiozonant is organic and helps tires last longer as it slows deterioration due to oxidation. This is what makes it possible to manufacture long-lasting high-mileage tires.“

How do you get it off your tires?
The answer is simple, you clean your tires with a good strong cleaner - you don’t need a fancy wheel and tire cleaner. All you need is a household product like Mr. Clean, Simple Green, or any of your go-to household cleaners. I used a 1:1 solution of Mr. Clean and water and a basic scrub brush. Don’t be shy with the solution and don’t try to save time. Get after it and scrub away and when you’re done, do it again.

Rinse with clean water and dry everything with a microfibre towel. It’s going to look pretty good but you’re not done yet. Check it out - not bad so far, right?

How do you keep it from coming back?
You’ve done the heavy lifting so keeping it under control is super easy. All you need to do is make sure you clean your tires every time you wash your truck and treat them with a good quality tire dressing or rubber conditioner.

Now, don’t just clean them with some spray-on, rinse-off tire cleaner. Scrub them with cleaner and a scrub brush or wheel brush. If you use the coin-op car wash, Spray the pants off them and take that foam brush to them. If you’re using the drive-thru type, you’ll need to clean them on their own.

Most good tire dressings can make your tires look good and protect them from oxidation. I use Aero Cosmetics Rubber Care because it’s the best product I’ve found - it was designed for use on aircraft tires, if that means anything. Spray on a liberal amount and work it in with a detailing sponge. When you think you’re done, spray a small amount on the sponge and rub it in again - it’s a conditioner and helps prevent the oxidation that causes the browning.

If you want shiny sidewalls, Aero Cosmetics Rubber Care isn’t for you and I’m sure there’s a product out there for you. If you want a matte black, like new finish, I recommend Aero Cosmetics. It also protects plastic, so run that sponge over your rear bumper caps while you’re at it.

I am a no shine, just a clean rubber tire kind of guy.

I use Castrol Degreaser, and helps get rid of brake dust too. Makes the rubber look clean.

Pro Tip: Spray armor all, rubbber dressing or what ever shiny rubber spray that you use on the tire treads. After a couple of rotations the tread has road stuff on them and the lower areas around the tread are clean and shiny black creating a nice looking tire.

PS... Them tires look pretty good cleaned up! Nice work.

Hell, I didn't even know tire browning was a thing. I don't see it around here. However scraping the tire up against a concrete thing in the parking lot gave it a small brown scrape. What causes tire browning? Mud exposure?

FYI, Project Farm did a review on tire dressing today, and one of the ones that doesn't have a shine but worked really well was Jay Leno's tire dressing. He didn't have Aero Costmetics Rubber care in the review though.

Ooooh, Ceramic - fancy like.

I'm definitely trying that as soon as my supply of the regular formula runs out. I may or may not have started a small hoard after you recommended this product a few years back.

Only the regular stuff was available here then but now I can get both.

This is by far the best tire cleaning/dressing product I have ever used. I'll never use anything else again.

https://dura-coating.com/collections/dura-dressing-tire-coating

I got my first kit before I even got my truck, so I'd have it ready to go when I took ownership. Being that the tires were new it was easier to clean and didn't take long. If your tires have years of "other tire shines" it may take some time to get them properly cleaned. But once this stuff is on and dry, there's no "slinging" of the product on the vehicle and it has a nice subtle sheen to it. And it last forever. You can wash and reapply as well. I probably re-applied it once or twice more since the initial clean and application.

Do you use this to clean or dress after you have cleaned your already very clean truck?
This isn't a cleaner...it's meant to dress clean rubber...for cleaning I use Black Magic Bleach White...

Have not heard of Jerry Shine before ha

It just strips whatever is there and leaves rims and tires clean with no residue. Soon as it is sprayed it starts dissolving the grime and turns the white foam to brown. Best on wheels that are not hot from driving
