I'm sure it was a 'qualified' tech that did all the work in that engine...

And I bet they were following the Oil Life Monitor for changing oil.

When I was in High School, worked part-time at a Texaco station. One day a customer in a Plymouth pulled in to fill up and my boss called me aside and said "its OK to check this guy's oil level but don't mention an oil change or he will come unglued" I washed his window and then pulled out the dipstick and there was thick black sludge on it! Glad he made it out of the driveway and down the street on my watch! :frown:

Change your oil or your engine will see Eric

I have my oil changed at the Ford dealer and never assume that it always gets done correctly so check it after every change to see if the oil is new and at the correct level. I used to do all my oil changes to make sure they were done right but now find it more convenient to have it done with the "works" package.

I owned a 99 B4000 Mazda branded Ranger and took it to the Mazda/Ford dealer for changes. On one change they did replace the oil but overfilled it by 1.5 quarts which can damage an engine. Took it back and had them to drain it out to the proper level.

Renault had an engine like that, I think it was used in the AMC Alliance.

The “works” package doesn’t include transmission, transfer case or differential fluid checks if you didn’t know

Yep, knew that. I was referring to the "works" package only for oil changes, tire rotation and the inspection.

I follow the the maintenance schedule in the manual for all other services and plan to have the transmission changed at 30K instead of it's recommendation. I am considering doing it myself since the pan doesn't have a drain plug and maybe upgrade to a higher end pan that comes with a drain plug rather than installing a plug into the existing pan. Or just replace the existing pan depending upon its condition and the circumstances when that time comes.

That was a good video. I really enjoy Eric's videos. I learned a lot from it. I do my oil changes at 3000 miles. I know Ford says 6000. But I'm just an old fart about that. I was also glad to learn that the oil pump was not wet belt driven.

Usually watch I Do Cars after church, but when I saw the Ranger engine, I couldn't wait. I do 5000 mile oil changes by the way. I personally think the 10,000 mile oil change the oil life monitor is to long for a turbo, direct injected engine.
Like you I noticed that our oil pump is gear driven which is good. Also noticed that even with the neglect the intake valves looked better than I was expecting.

Don't like the key less crank and cams though.
