Hello everyone!
New ranger owner here. And new to this forum. About a month ago I brought a used and already modified 2022 Ranger Lariat Tremor in Arizona and am in the process of registering it in California. Part of the California process is to get the vehicle SMOG checked. Well I went to get the truck SMOG’d today and it failed because it has a Roush Cold air intake installed (bought the truck this way). When you go to the roush website the intake shows as 50 state legal for 2019-2021 rangers, And because my ranger is a 2022 and roush didn’t extend their CARB certification for 2022-2023 rangers, my intake is not California legal (rolls eyes).

Does anyone have the stock air intake/air box assembly I can buy from them? I need the stock intake within the next 30 days so I can pass SMOG and register the truck in California.

I’m hoping one of you upgraded your intake and has the stock parts on a shelf collecting dust somewhere. Lmk.
thanks,
Bradley Larson

btw - all you need is the lid, filter, and the big pipe. The Roush CAI does not come with a box or intake scoop - those OEM parts are typically left in place.

However, some folks pair the Roush CAI with an aFe Power Magnum intake scoop in favour of the OEM intake scoop - it’s heavily branded and easy to spot.

But, I know a guy in San Diego who put the Roush in his 2019 and might be able to help.

Oh, and it sucks that it doesn’t pass in CA because it doesn’t even throw a code. :(

Dang, well I am in Vegas, would consider a swap but otherwise it was probably more for looks which is a shame they failed the visual inspection for that reason

Edit: NVM, too far of a drive.

You can probably find one on eBay.
I looked on eBay with no luck. I found a for parts Ranger which was all smashed up from a collision in the Las Angeles area, and if I can't find a spare one, I will hit them up and see if the intake is still serviceable. But id rather snag one from someone who literally has it taking up garage space.

I appreciate the willingness anyways man (But def. too far). Yeah, I'm ticked about it because if my truck was only a year older (2021) it would have passed, but because greedy California didn't get their money from Roush for 22'-23' it is now magically illegal. If it were actually about emissions the CARB number would be valid for the life of the generation of the vehicle, but it's not about emissions, its about money.

Thanks for the advice. I will look tomorrow, but I don't think it has anything other than the Roush CAI. If your friend in SD is willing to sell me his, LMK, I will pay him/her for it and cover shipping.

could you hit up a you-pull-it junk yard to see if you can find a stock intake there?

Dude. You’re the man. I bought it. THANK YOU!
You’re welcome.

Are you going to put the OEM stuff on just for the inspection and then re-install the Roush kit?

If you do, I have a thread with the step-by-step on cleaning your Roush filter. Just look in my signature line below my posts.

Well, I’m back to the drawing board. The eBay dude canceled my order. ??

And to answer your question, yes I plan on just using the stock one for the inspection, then swapping the Roush one back over the same day. I won’t have to smog it again for 8 years I think. I want to hold onto the stock parts in case CA changes their mind. Lol

I looked this morning and it is just the Roush clear lid(upper half of the air box), the Roush filter and the Roush pipe/tube.
