Roush says Ranger owners can easily install the kit at home in about an hour's time with basic tools. The price for 284 hp and 363 lb-ft? Just $935. The kit also comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile limited Roush powertrain warranty. Until Ford offers its own Ranger power upgrade or another more powerful engine option, this is probably one of the cheapest and fastest ways to make it happen.

A friend of mine had the Roush Level 1 kit on his Ecoboost Mustang. It performed really well until @ 100k miles. It was about as fast as my GT was 0 to 60. After @ 100k miles, lets just say all hell broke loose and the Ford dealer told him he needed a new motor.

A lot can happen in 100K miles, not all miles are equal

For those who are worried about tuning and reliability there is now a Roush tune and intake kit that offers a warranty. Impressive gains in the middle of the power band for HP as well.

The haters of this particular and CAI in general are on other threads. Thanks for posting. 93 Octane $2.54 at Costco in Iowa :) If indeed the dealer can/would upload the tune that would answer important questions.

I drove a couple of stock Ecoboost Mustangs 100 miles back from auction and they were quicker than my '02 GT with the 4.6

Exactly. The tune is basically $500 and includes a 36/36,000 warranty honored at your ford dealership.

it may not outperform other tunes, but it’s SOMETHING, and let’s you keep peace of mind.

these gains seem to be with the CAI and tune only. looks like there may be more to eek out with the use of a better downpipe, chargepipes, and exhaust, each of which can help with power, torque, and throttle response.

Correct - warranty was the main thing tune detractors warned of also engine damage due to increase air flow and resulting dirt intake were the main points against a CAI other than CAI alone didn't do much/anything to increase HP. I will be watching and saving my money. It is interesting that the installation (which includes PCM flashing) is rated as "easy" but the installation of the CAI alone is rated "intermediate". I'm looking at the installation instructions and it refers to needing a SAE J2534 device to flash the PCM- I'm not sure exactly what that is?
