I posted in a transmission thread that my 2021 Ranger XLT (63k miles) was starting to shudder when accelerating at lower speeds and when cruising under ~45 mph. I'm currently waiting on the dealer to call me to bring it in. There are no grinding noises and it does fine at higher speeds. I ran it in sport mode and it was fine like that for a couple of days and then the problem started up again. Any chance that what I thought was a tranny issue is actually a coil pack? No CEL light has come on, though. Kind of acting similar to how my old Camry acted when I had a bad coil pack. The CEL didn't pop on right away in that case.

Just trying to keep my hopes up. It has had a handful of rough shifts.

Thanks

A coil would generate misfire codes, plus you would be able to duplicate the shudder if you were to place in drive and hold the brake - then hit the gas, placing a load on the engine.

I believe you have a DPFE sensor issue, many posts about it on here, and the low speed under 45 MPH is one of the factors, above 45 MPH you are overcoming the excess Exhaust Flow being introduced into the intake.

To truly test the system - a Live Data Drive cycle is needed to view what the EGR Valve is doing and what the DPFE sensor is reporting as EGR Flow.

Ref; This Thread and see if any of the symptoms match what you have.

You may have a bad EGR DPFE (differential pressure sensor). Many have had that fairly inexpensive and easy to replace part fail and cause the symptoms that you described.

Is this a part that I can easily replace myself? Hopefully there's some good youtube videos of it when I get on wifi.

I've worked on my own vehicles my entire life. Only thing I ever paid to get replaced was a fuel pump because I didn't have the time.

Here is a link from another post showing a picture of the DPFE sensor. It sits on top of the engine. RockAuto has the part at a good price. It is easy to replace.

Man you saved me some money. Just got the new sensor installed and the truck is running like it's new. Thanks again.

On the flip side if you want to go ahead and change your plugs, I have a write up for that too. I just hit 60,000 miles on my ‘19 Lariat and did plugs, DPFE Sensor, and MAPT sensor. Engine wise truck is solid.
