I know that when you're in Sport mode and manual shifting with the +/- button the display in the dash shows what gear you are in, but I've been wanting to know what gear the computer has selected when the truck is in Drive.

If you pull the shifter back into Sport mode... start driving... then push it forward into Drive the display interactively shows which gear, 1-10, the computer is selecting. Interesting to check what rpm's it is shifting at, and how quickly it changes from one gear to the next.

We've come a long way from the days of the 2 speed powerglides.

You can also just push the +/- button on shifter while in D and it will pull display up

indeed however in D only use the +. the - is used for restricting to gears for managing down hill descent etc. pressing the + is for toggling the gear display.

this is a great site, i have an XLT and I thought you needed a Lariat to see them, but I just tried it out, works great, skips a lot of gears sometimes.

it only starts limiting gears after a second press does it not?
press + or - once and it brings up the selection.
press minus again and then you start dropping gears and you can keep dropping a gear on subsequent presses. Or do I have a unicorn???

You're correct. The first press brings up the gears and if you press the - again it will start locking them out. Sorry, no unicorn. :bandit:

I find it easiest to just push + as well. I’m having a hard time getting used to the steering wheel controls because they are the opposite of my car.

Same. After 2 months, I still look for the cruise control on the right side of the steering wheel like my Outback. This has a hell of a lot more buttons on the steering wheel too. Makes it interesting when I drive my wife's Legacy :headbang:

I’ll have to try that. Mine disappeared.
The downside is is defaults back to off every time you turn it off. You will have to press the + every time you restart your truck and want the gears to appear.

I would think there is a FORScan setting to show this fulltime.

Mine will show the gear position for 1 or 2 additional starts after initiation. It does eventually default back to off.

Mine does same thing. I did not know if it was a count vs length of time.

Mine does the same thing. I wish there was a way to permanently keep it on.
