Right side of Tailgate hinge pop out easily whenever I open the tailgate

I went to the Ford dealership to replace the plastic clip. They said it should not pop out easily. It doesn't work! I wasted $41.47 on this. Do you have any suggestions on how to keep it in all the time and not pop out easily?

You can semi-permanently do this with a McGard anti-theft lock. It would be some work to remove your tailgate with awkward reaching and angles with a ratchet. But It won't lift out with it on.

You may be able to achieve the same with a hose clamp.

mine does it too, the addition of the gas strut assist made it worse

Have the gas strut. Never had an issue but I also install the McGuard. My son’s tail lights were stolen so we put all kinds of security on to negate the issue. The tailgate lock, security screws for the tail lights and the tailgate access panel. Hard panel tonneau…… the mcguard will def keep it from coming off

was it $41.47 for that tiny clip? ARGH!! i have one broken, worried about if the 2nd one breaks then it will really come off easily. looking for other solutions as well

I thought the gate had to be in mid angle between closed and open for it to come out?

I had the same issue at about 5,000 miles. My truck is a runabout for my business so I'm not the only that drives it. Some of the others would the tailgate slam open and it actually bent the metal round piece on the bed. Dealer repaired under warranty, including new plastic guard on top of the bumper that got scratched up. I installed the dampener so that the tail gate can't slam open and no troubles since then. People like to laugh at the dampener, but the repair is expensive, three days in the body shop, so happy to avoid this occurring on my dime.
