Tailgate unlocking itself

I do not have a remote unlock feature on my tailgate but of course it has the actuator in it. I always check my tailgate because I’m concerned somebody might steal it which is what happened the one and only time I left my F150 tailgate unlocked years ago and came out the next morning to go fishing and the tailgate was gone. I’m always finding my tail gate unlocked On this Ranger and I’m certain that I have been locking it.
So today before starting at 2 1/2 hour ride to come home, I locked it and double and triple checked it and it was locked. When I got home and went right to it and checked it, I found it was unlocked. I cannot find anything on the forums or on the Internet about this. Anybody else have this issue?

I believe the tailgate is tied to the door locks; It'll unlock when you unlock the doors. There isn't a separate button to unlock only the tailgate.

Not sure what you mean you do not have the remote unlock feature on your tailgate but do have the actuator. On my XLT my tailgate locks and unlocks with the doors. Yes I can unlock and lock it with the key, but the next time I unlock the doors it unlocks the tailgate.

Is proximity unlock set to unlock all 4 doors or just the driver's door? If this is to set for all doors then the tailgate will also unlock when unlocking anything other than just the driver door.

He has an XLT no proximity unlock. Yes, you can set it to unlock everything with a single press of the fob.

As others have said it depends on how you have it setup. With the XLT you can do drivers door only or all at once.

My mistake. I had the wrong system I meant the intelligent access locking system.

Might be the same thing Brett, if you mean just having to touch the handle to unlock. Those of us non-Lariat ownerd have to actually take our key fob out of our pocket and push a button.

You are probably correct. I was not aware that the XLT's did not have this system. I guess it's linked to the push button starter or something like that.

Thank you! I went to my tailgate and put my ear up near it when I double clicked the unlock button and I heard it unlock and then I locked it and I heard it lock. I was told I did not have that feature but the actuator was in there anyway. I guess the rest of the times I unlocked my truck and I went out to check the tailgate just to be sure it was locked the night before and I find it unlocked. Now I know why. It's usually in my garage but sometimes it's not and that's what was concerning me. Thanks for your response and thank you to everybody else that replied to this. You can also get a tailgate lock to prevent it from being stolen.

I have one of these and it stops the tailgate from being removed unless you have the key to remove the bolt. Installs in about 10 min.

Yeah I have to hit the unlock button twice to unlock the other three doors in the tailgate. I don't know why I was told they didn't have that feature. Thanks for the info.
