ok so this is a weird one.
drivers side crash bar has a creak. you know…that sound you get when the tiniest bit of dirt is trapped between two surfaces and moves just the right amount.

drivers side, jacked up the truck to remove the suspension from the equation. definitely the crash bar.
loosened it up, attempted to clean it out, tightened…gone. this morning it’s back!! i guess more dirt got in there.
anyone else have this issue?

and yes- i know how to totally kill the issue. i just want to avoid that for the moment till order new ones.

I’m skeptical that a fixed part would cause the noise if tightened down. All of those moving suspension/wheel/brake parts in the vicinity would be the more likely culprit. Are You just observing this noise while driving? If so, how have you narrowed it down to the crash bar?

as stated above, yup. i jacked up the truck to eliminate suspension movement. definitely the crash bar.
I definitely agree that something tightened down shouldn’t make noise. it’s so tight in that area it’s hard to see what’s going on.

that’s the thing i hate about playing in the dirt. you always end up with weird ass noises after.

i’ll grab a photo tomorrow! thanks for looking up the specs! Itsounds like i got some dirt trapped in there. it’s not real bad, but i want to spearhead it.
i loosened it tonight and exercised it, tried to get it cleaned, no result.

just tighten it to one grunt spec and hose it down with rem oil or some other spray lube :)

Body Mounts

The body support mounts:

  • secure the body to the frame.
  • cannot be lubricated during body support mount installation
NOTE: Body fasteners are reusable if the following steps are followed:

  • Body bolt threads must be cleaned of thread sealer by using a wire wheel or wire brush.
  • Apply a new treatment of threadlock sealer to the body bolt threads.
  • FESM body mount retainer cage nuts must be serviced as an assembly.
  • Refer to the following illustrations for body mount torque values.
Front End Sheet Metal (FESM) Body Mount LH/RH

image

ItemDescriptionTorque
1Body retainer cage nut
2Upper FESM body mount
3Spacer tube
4Lower FESM body mount
5Body mount bolt80 Nm (59 lb-ft)

Looks like they install DRY, with factory coating on them
I suspect bushing torn (in the middle) they run about $25.00 for each bushing (upper & lower)
You might try Fluid Film as a option to silence the noisy bushing.

update- found it. dirt/sand/whatever stuck in this convoluted area beside the frame mount. hosed it down with fluid film and gone. that area seems to be a dirt trap and i guess alittle movement because of how the body mount is.
