So figured I would come here and document my issue. So I was driving through the mountains of Utah which is lots up and down hills. As I was climbing a hill I noticed I completely lost boost and the truck went into limp mode....thus ZERO BOOST. Looking at my gauge it was reading 50-60 kpa and the blow off value was silent as I tried to rev (No circulation). luckily I was on a downhill slope into the city of Logan so I pretty much rolled into a parking lot, but thats when I started to notice clouds of smoke coming out my exhaust. Sat there running codes and nothing came up which was confusing. I went under the truck to see if there was any leaks, nothing. Checked my oil cap to see if maybe coolant mixed with my oil, nothing. I figured it might be a blown gasket with the white smoke, but it didnt smell sweet, more burnt like oil. Im thinking it's a blown turbo. I got my truck towed to Ford where I bought it so I should be getting a call here soon. Will update but has anyone had similar issues? Im hoping ford covers this under warranty, however my truck is FAR from stock. I have a full 3" exhaust, catted downpipe, Intercooler, charge pipes, CAI, Blowoff valve, and tuned.... Maybe I might get lucky since my brother is always in the shop because his Raptor breaks down every month and he is good friend with the shop... fingers crossed.

Yes, best of luck but, I don’t like your chances. :(

I don't either.... waiting on the dreaded call today. I know I voided my warranty as soon as I started my build. Im just hoping because of my brother and his relationship with the shop they might overlook all the modifications.

Well just got a call from Ford. The turbo is destroyed from oil leaking into it. Apparently the seals are bad so thats how oil seeped through. My intercooler has oil in it and the cold side charge pipe is leaking oil onto my ADD bumper. I didnt see the leak since the skid plate covers the area and it's hard to see. I got quoted $3,000 for the repair which also includes charge pipe drainage, intercooler drainage, new turbo, throttle bottle, and they recommended a tranny flush. They are seeing if warranty covers.... with all the aftermarket parts it's not likely, I'm just hoping the relationship helps with the shop ?

Well, at least you got a quick answer, which is more than a lot of folks get.

$3k for all that and the labor sounds like a pretty good deal to me

Better if Ford covers it but even if they don't, I'd expect the Turbo alone to be around that price, you're getting a new throttle body, they're going to drain your pipes and intercooler and do a tranny flush and install the new stuff for the same price...

Could be worse.

Well, I got lucky because my brother knows the head guy in the ford shop. They actually got me covered through warranty. My brother told me that the tech said that there is NO WAY on any other circumstance that I would be covered through all the modifications I have. Now I owe him a drink at the bar, which I dont mind paying for. Sh*t I'll buy drinks all night!! The only thing that comes out of pocket is paying for the throttle and tranny flush which is $550.... beats paying $3000+ any day!

Let's hope it last for sometime. The fault was the seals on the turbo. I thought about upgrading the turbo but to be honest I dont need or want more horsepower than the truck is already producing.
Not to mention all the other modifications that goes into upgrading a turbo. I'm building my truck to have fun in the desert via bajakit (Long travel suspension) and fenders to fit 35's.

If I had to pay out of pocket I would have. I agree with you about the cost, I just got lucky because of the relationship my brother has with the ford shop.

There are no seals in the turbo. There are tiny little piston rings on the cold and hot side. They ride in a bore and have a tiny end gap and as long as the bearings are tight they do their job. Most likely a bearing failure causing the piston rings to not fit in their bore anymore and thus passing oil. The cause of the bearing failure should be determined to eliminate the possibility of damaging the new turbo. Other scenarios include a dirty air filter causing restriction or high crankcase pressure not allowing turbo drain oil to exit the turbo.
Again the root cause of failure should be determined to ensure that the new turbo lives a long life.
