I watch a lot of tfl truck and saw this earlier. Interested in what if anything actually broke. Sounded like something with the front diff.

I have to say I'm surprised - he hadn't really hammered it too hard when it popped - it will be interesting to see what broke. I'm surprised it was so fragile. Not a good look for the new Tacoma for sure.

Pretty sure in one of their first episodes they began towing at a mileage well beneath the mileage specified in the Toyota manual. They even called it out that they were doing it. They do 0-60 tests just hammering the vehicles while in break in.
not a good look for Toyota? Sure. But it’s also a bit of a chuckle for me because I also find it self inflicted.
I would never buy a vehicle if I knew it had been previously owned by some bonehead YouTube channel that did “testing” with it.

That really was not under much stress when it snapped, and there was minimal traction to cause something to break. Seveal months back a member posted a video of something in his ranger drivetrain snapping when he was pulling a trailer up a rough rocky hill- that one was not surprising because it was being seriously abused.

I looked at a few of the comments and some were saying they were abusing it. I had to laugh - if a truck can't take the little bit of wheel spin on snow and ice, it isn't a truck I want to own!

It will be really interesting to see what the real cause was when they get it looked at. Even though they've drag raced it a few times and did some towing with it, that shouldn't have caused this issue I don't think.

I do find it interesting that both the new Colorado and the Tacoma they own both have issues. The Colorado being on a 'don't sell' order and this happening to the Tacoma. Doesn't bode well for either one.

Maybe Ford learned its lesson with all its problematic launches and is taking its time with the 6G? I'm not holding my breath, but......

You are correct. I meant transfer case. I dont think any of the tacoma trims, even the pro or trailhunter, will have a front locking diff.

+1. Actually, plus 100.

But then again I don't even like used vehicles from the "little ol' lady that only drove it to church on Sundays." In a perfect world I want to be the one that drives my vehicle away from the end of the assembly line.

I got one of these back in high school. It was my first car. It looked pristine but it had some monsters hiding under the hood for sure. I ended up getting rid of it less than a year later after repeated MAJOR problems that most likely came down to the fact that it wasn't used enough to keep the engine lubricated.
