I have been using the 400 as much as the 910. The only difference being the 400 is slightly longer with more capacity.
Also the FL400 filters 80% of the particles 20 microns or larger, whereas the FL910 filters 50% of the particles 35 microns or larger.
So the 400 seems to filter junk out of the oil better.
Source of specs was taken from a Bob the oil guy discussion on the 400 vs. 910.

The 510 that the OP mentioned ? I'm not even sure what the application for that one is.
I looked at several Motorcraft application charts and could find no FL-510s (or the FL-400s either)
The closest number was an FL-500.

@sandog - that's an interesting point about filtering capabilities. That, to a layman, seems like a large performance gap. I'm going to look into this some more as well.

I have been using a FL400 since the first oil change. No issues.

I have actually considered using a old FL-1A filter. Much bigger, and would make all my vehicles take the same filter.

This, I've been using the 400s on all my Ford vehicles over the years including, 2004 SVT Focus, 2016 Fiesta ST, 2018 Focus ST, and now the 2022 Ranger Tremor. Anecdotal but I've never had an issue with performance or clearance on any of these vehicles. The extra filtering capacity is surely better to have in my opinion.

I guess I'm late to the game (or playing the wrong game). I've used Fram filters my entire auto life (going back 50 years). Have always been great.

What am I missing?
