Sitting at 42k on my 2019. Had to spend the past week in Atlanta for some training related to work and my HVAC got stuck a couple times with full hot blowing out of the driver's vents and cool air coming out of the passenger vents. I could adjust fan speed and the vents that blew the air, but not the temp. The problem appears to go away if it sits in the cold overnight but will start up again after I've been driving for a good while (first time happened after ~40min with pretty cold outside temps and second time happened after maybe 2hrs driving in less cold temps). Unfortunately, my dealer can't get it in for awhile. Thankfully I don't have any long drives coming up so maybe I'll be able to avoid it getting a lot worse in that time. But it's going to be frustrating because the wife's car gets dropped off a week and a half earlier for some body work (hit and run when driving home from visiting family over Christmas) and depending on how long her car takes, juggling vehicles could be a factor.

Service advisor made a comment about it probably being the actuator for the blend door and I just kept my mouth shut. I'm prepared for the full dash ripout. Seems to me that my symptoms suggest plastic warping when it gets hot.

I do have the extended warranty, so maybe this will be the first time in my life that doing so has been worthwhile.

OP, I had mine done under the extended warranty. Your dealer should honor that.
the service adviser cheered up when I pointed that out. he asked checked my mileage and then got a good bit quieter and had a softer tone when talking about being outside my original bumper-to-bumper warranty (I'm sure he has had experience with people being royally pissed about the cost), but then said the extended warranty will cover it. so that's good. I just hope it doesn't take too long to fix it. Already getting a rental to deal with my wife's car in the shop. I'd rather not have to pay for a rental for this if I can avoid it.

Bummer...while you have the extended warranty...try and blow up your transmission before it expires...

I had this done last month it took two weeks for the parts to come in, not all of them one was sooner than the others, they got in done in one day, i have no issues with the re install of the dash no squeaks rattles or marks from removal, the heat is super hot as it was originally everything works as before.
They provided a loaner and i paid the $100 ext warranty deductible minus a couple dollars i had remaining on Ford Pass rewards. I was freaking out that i might have to get rid of the truck if it came back less than proper, but all is well, good luck with yours.

This seems to be a common problem for Ford. My 2019 Fiesta ST needed a similar repair and it is understood that these actuators go bad on a regular basis. I think they need a new vendor, across the board, or something.

It is tragic that we Ranger owners just expect to eat it on a daily basis. If these vehicles were inexpensive that would be one thing, but Ford has somehow managed to build something that is expensive and cheap at the same time.

Fear of such a $$$ repair drove me to buy my 1st x warranty on anything I have ever owned, as yes I agree with the comments that vilify Ford for this.

My 2019 XLT has actuators that had been a bit noisy, and the driver's side finally stuck (full on heat) on my way to the airport on January 14. I guess I'll have to take it in when I get back from this business trip. I too have a extended warranty so hopefully this isn't too much hassle. I've had multiple Ford vehicles with noisy actuators and the 2009 Mariner my now ex-wife had back then had them replaced as well. I agree Ford needs a new vendor for these parts. And yes, this kind of repair is why I too have the first extended warranty I have ever purchased. Little things like these being a problem on this truck is a bummer because I quite like my Ranger otherwise.

Distribution box inside the dash does need to be replaced. My extended warranty is covering it, and they anticipate getting my truck back to me sometime around the end of the week.
