I got the chance to take a measurement of the fluid levels on my transmission. I didn’t get to take a picture of it, but I was actually surprisingly low. Looked like I was barely above the 6 mark. The temps today in the Tampa area on the drive back to Miami were in the 50’s, but I had also been on the road for two hours before stopping to fuel up/grab some food. This was driving on i75 at 65mph and towing my intech trailer. Tow haul mode was on and transmission was running in 9th gear the whole time.

Let us know how much fluid you add to obtain proper level.

It seems that a lot are low.

Mine was over 2 quarts low, I checked it after reading a low fluid post here a couple of years ago, before the dipstick project, had to do it on the back

It's really surprising, it used to be the dealer PDI pre-delivery inspection would catch low fluid and top off, but now with the mini stick and the temp requirements, there is no way Ford would pay tech what it takes to check the fluid properly.

Just think ?, if Ford shorted, lets say 2 quarts for 50,000 transmissions and it costs $15 a quart (or whatever there mark-up is)

They just made an additional $150,000 off of everyone if they check it and buy it from them!!! ????

Just goes to say what they'll do to make a ??

Goes back to what I said before.

They roll the ? ? thinking that the truck will be outside the warranty period before it implodes and won't have to repair/replace it!!! ????

I wouldn't put it past bean counters but it wouldn't take long to spend that $150,000 in transmission replacements under warranty. I personally find it puzzling that essential fluids aren't at the right level from the factory. The only fluid that was low on my truck was washer fluid.

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
After installing the new dipstick, was able to verify that the fluid level in my truck was fine. (Thanks Fitz!) Makes me wonder if they finally got the fluid level right for the '23 production trucks. Also makes me wonder how the hell Ford can't seem to fill a transmission properly.

Guys in the F150 forums also make comments about low fluid levels in the 10R80's. Come-on Ford. Shit ain't rocket science.

Below is the reading I got today driving home. The drive home from work is only about half and hour, but it’s on the highway, and I had it locked in seventh gear. RPMs were turning about 2500. While I cannot say the transmission was up to temp, the reading matches what I saw yesterday after driving for a couple hours on the highway at 65mph.

It's a little fuzzy, it focused down on the tip, if it's not between 4-5 like the instructions on the stick state, add some!

That stick has been designed to be accurate within 1/16th of an inch when properly installed, use it, trust it, set your fluid level with it, that's what you bought it for?

If you think that maybe it's off, something happened in shipping or something, I have the stick lengths recorded, give me your serial number and we can verify the length.

With the feedback about how some people have low fluid, I should send a quart with the dipstick, it will save the dipstick buyer a trip to the auto parts store for fluid, wait, that turns the shipment into "Hazardous Material" I think.

Hey, you guys on the replacement sticks, I hit another shipping snag, everything was fine, I was bonding a 3/4" wood strip to the outside of the tube to strengthen it, then tapping over it in MBS tape so the wood was covered, shipped quite a few sticks no problem, tube was in tact when delivered... until UPS doinked me, hard, apparently everything has to be covered in corrugated cardboard, tape over the wood is a chargeable offense

I am going to try bonding it inside the tube, that should be funny, Gorilla glue on a 3/4" square wood strip down in a 2" tube, then I have to clamp it... wait, maybe I can staple it through the wall of the tube, Ugh, if the box wasn't almost double to ship I would just use it.

I wonder if someone smacked someone else with the tube and went OUCH? I thought it was perfect, wont roll around the truck and get crunched, extra strong, hard to fold.

Whatever the case, I gotta go to plan C or D or wherever I'm at now!

Oh well, who said it would be easy:facepalm:

RETIRED!
Sometimes I wonder if the people at the Post Office make up their own rules?

I prepared a shipment using a cardboard tube that I had kept from when I ordered my hood struts. I measured, remeasured, and weighed it twice. I entered the info into the PO's Click & Ship web page. I selected USPS Priority Mail then selected the new Ground Advantage option to compare pricing. Shipping time was about the same, but the Ground Advantage was a few bucks cheaper so I purchased the label.

Not wanting any problems, I took it into the PO and asked if everything was OK. He measured it, & weighed it, and said "NOPE, you didn't purchase enough postage" His measurements and weight were the same as mine (and I even added a little to the weight and dimensions to be sure all was good) I wound up paying them another $3 bucks. He said it was because it was "over-length". How is the average guy shipping stuff from home using the USPS web site supposed to know that? There were no red flags or notifications regarding over-length issues when I entered the info on their web page!

I have some ULV arriving tomorrow. Had I known I was running so low I would’ve taken a long drive back when I first installed it. Definitely makes you wonder how many transmissions have failed/had issues due to low fluid.
