Took my truck in today after waiting a month for an appointment. My problems were slipped felt not engaged sometimes between 2-5. Hard downshifts when approaching a stop. Plus on one occasion I stopped at a stop sign and it was still in 7th gear. Had to put it in sport mode to get it to shift.

I'd really like to thank all the people that have posted to this forum. I had my first transmission failure to engage/slip between 2-5 two months ago and given the knowledge here I knew not to ignore it.

I am grateful for today's Ford dealer even thou I had to drive over an hour and past 2 other Ford dealers on the way. I just didn't feel like those dealers had the expertise to troubleshoot and repair my truck based on past experiences.

This dealer ran diagnostics and found anomalies with my 5th gear and is scheduling me for transmission tear down and rebuild.

It will take a month to get on the schedule and probably 3 more weeks to complete the repair, but it is being done under my 5/60,000 power train warranty and they will be providing me a rental.

I felt like hugging the service advisor because I'm so used to people not knowing their craft. After the rebuild is complete, I may feel different, but right now I really feel like this dealership has their act together. Moving forward when shopping for Ford. They will be my dealer. I'm glad to have bought my vehicle from this dealership.

2019 Lariat. I am at 4 years 6 months of ownership.... but unfortunately 68k miles. Just got the quote from the dealership.... 9k to get it replaced. This will probably be the last Ford I own. I guess I get a Toyota now like everyone else.

I take it you never got a quote to have it rebuilt? You could even look into some local transmission shops just to see what they would offer on that as well.

As for the Toyota, good luck getting at a good price..... They call it Toyota Tac for a reason

That is an insane price. Granted, I know there is labor involved in replacing it (And some supplies for flushing the coolers out, and possibly some time for programming), but the transmissions are not anywhere near that expensive:

Of course, they are out of stock, but still.

9K?!?!?! What gives? I had a completely new transmission installed for less than $6K...I thought that was bad...9K?!?!

BTW, I was informed that a rebuild would take a lot of time and the labor charges would not be worth it...I opted for a "newer" 23 new pallet transmission...

Actually, I posted before getting the official estimate of 10k.

This was my first initial reaction after getting the estimate a few hours ago. I'll call around to some independent shops nearby tomorrow. The service advisor said he would talk to Ford and see if they would do anything but from what I'm reading here, they would do a rebuild instead of a replacement and it sounds like its a problem with this generation of transmissions? I don't want to shell out more cash just to have this thing fail again in 60k.

I think the thing that hits me the most is this is the first new car I ever bought and the fourth Ford I have owned. My 4G ranger had 210k on it before I sold it. I sold my fusion at 140k. I had planned on driving the wheels off this one just like my previous one... I just didn't expect the wheels to fall off in less than 5 years. Maybe 10 years of minor maintenance and repairs without having to buy something like a brand new transmission? I made every service interval, took it to a ford dealership for every single service so I have the full service history.

I'll call around tomorrow to different independent shops to shop the price but man this sucks.

I got mine booked mid-month to address shifting issues, though it was tough to notice. Had some weird shifting during towing (Tow mode was on!) and then more issues came during colder weather this fall, intermittent throughout. Was originally troubleshot using an older TSB 23-2250 in September. Symptoms were confirmed, service advisors reassured me the majority just need a main control valve body overhaul with new parts to stop sticky valves. Parts were on backorder, along with other TSBs I wanted done.

SO, that TSB was revised in November, which cuts the reading a bunch and narrows down the model list slightly. TSB 23-2350 is the new number, worth a read for anyone who got work done the past couple years. I also notice changed steps applicable to the vehicle's production date, and if you are low enough on the odometer, a full transmission swap can be approved if the dealer doesn't want to do any heavy work.

I will know more in a couple weeks!

Sorry to hear, I hope Ford would offer to help those that actually have a major issue with the transmission, even out of warranty.

I usually don’t advocate for over-maintaining a car, but I think these 10R80 should get new fluid every 3/36k or at least once before the Powertrain runs out and once after, to keep them alive…

Thanks for the heads up on the newer TSB. My 2022 with a build of 03/22 and 15K miles goes in this Tuesday for said shift complaints. Good to see that a replacement transmission is an option now.

Hope they get yours fixed up good. I have faith as they did mine and all the issues are gone.
