Might as well have a hood scoop that way the rest of the spark plugs can get water around them, like #4 does from the cowl.
Water and debris are things that will certainly be a challenge for us. As of now, we are not concerned with anything reaching the spark plugs because the air is coming through the scoop and then following a channel attached to the underside of the hood that leads to the cold air box. We then plan to mate the cold air box and the channel together in a near-seemless connection.

Your concern about debris is real though, a mesh solution might be in the works, but if you've seen other designs please let us know!

I like the idea of vents over scoop. But a scoop would be cool if there was an underside of the hood piece that made a sealed connection to the factory airbox. Kinda like a scoop on top and a snorkel on the underside.

i would think that if I was cutting a hole in the hood to do this i would price it no more than any other snorkel kit. Otherwise, it could just be a whole new hood.
Exactly what we were thinking! The sealed connection to the underside of the factory airbox would be easily attached. Only requiring you unclip the mini-snorkle that is attached to the box.

Vents are doable. Do you think that this would be more interesting to you as a purpose built full hood redesign, as opposed to individual parts?

@rydfree installEd the AmeriHood functional “Ram air” hood on his Ranger and it was pretty slick. It may have been vented also. I’m not sure if Benny is still on the forum but maybe he’ll chime in.

It would be great if it didn’t have areas where water can pool like it can on the Air Designs non-functional scoop.

Including a modified hood insulator blank that accommodates the new air channel and hole in the hood would be nice.

Either of these two would be fine. ;)

Thanks! Well, send him a message!

And also, thank you for bringing that to our attention! We will consider how the hood will withstand sitting outdoors for prolonged periods of time through rain and such.

Is the sound blanket on the bottom side of the hood a make-or-break item for you? It may be necessary to remove it entirely for the final design. Although we'll certainly try to keep it!

I'll have those mustangs printed out and posted on our vision board. Good motivation to try and look like what we will never be :(

That would be the obvious choice, but if you look under your hood to see the ram air snorkle attached to the cold air box, you will see that it's not optimal. Firstly, the OEM snorkle is undersized, restricting air flow; secondly, the air that it inducts is coming off of the air running off the FMIC. We suspect that the turbo may be even taking air away from the FMIC, or if not at the very least taking considerable air directly from the engine bay. Considering that there are no hood vents, lots of hot air is being swept up from the underbody to the top of the under-bonnet area, making it a prime suspect to be sucked in.

We can improve on those issues with our design, which circumvents the hot engine air by taking all the cool air running off of the hood, much like how the Tacomas are doing with the TRD sport.
Looking forward to the design.

I would rather have an OEM modified hood than a fiberglass hood. Paint cost for the scoop to match could be a deterrent. Maybe offering a paint service would make this more palatable.

Here is a photo of how this company adds a scoop on a jeep JL and routes the air to the airbox with an underhood attachment. Take note of the drain.

The plastic on the opposite side is a vent

I'm imagining a shaker hood in the making...in this case, an off center type directly over the air box?...
Yessssss!

Like the Porsche….
