We are currently working on designing a hood *scoop* to be inserted on the current OEM hood, that would redirect air flow towards the cold air box. What I would like from YOU, is advice. What would you want to see as a part of this project? Do you have concerns? Do you think its something you'd buy, and at what price point?

We would love it if you PMd us so that we can ask you a few more specific questions. ALSO, this doesn't cost you a dime or penny, your not committed to buying anything, we just want to make sure our product matches your needs.

As an old dude, hood scoops that are functional can look awful. Lord knows I have seen many a garage build with some terrible ergonomics, but it did its job on the airflow needs.
If you brought something to market that matched the lines of the Ranger, without looking like a bruise on an otherwise beautiful apple, then I would clap my hands in appreciation.
Not sure what I would pay for such a masterpiece, but function and form is my wish list

Thanks for the response! Trust us, making it look good is certainly something that we are concerned about. It seems like scoops are 60% looking cool and 40% functional.

I have an additional question, would you be okay with cutting large holes/having them cut for you in your hood to install the part?

I have two trains of thought there....yes I would if the performance gains were going to be worth it. but a part of me would like a whole hood to swap out, then if I decide to change it back then I still have the original hood.

Not only looking good and functional but maybe electrical modulators to close scoop when not running. Like the old Mach 1 mustangs had (vacuum modulators though).. That away in foul weather you didn't have a array of water or leaves etc. in the ducts.

@rydfree installEd the AmeriHood functional “Ram air” hood on his Ranger and it was pretty slick. It may have been vented also. I’m not sure if Benny is still on the forum but maybe he’ll chime in.

It would be great if it didn’t have areas where water can pool like it can on the Air Designs non-functional scoop.

Including a modified hood insulator blank that accommodates the new air channel and hole in the hood would be nice.

Either of these two would be fine. ;)

I like the idea of vents over scoop. But a scoop would be cool if there was an underside of the hood piece that made a sealed connection to the factory airbox. Kinda like a scoop on top and a snorkel on the underside.

i would think that if I was cutting a hole in the hood to do this i would price it no more than any other snorkel kit. Otherwise, it could just be a whole new hood.

I would like it to come through the grill area like a GT500 or new GT Mustang

Not a fan of cutting big holes in hoods.

That would be another intake product...not a ram hood intake product that OP's asking for inputs...

Performance gains should be second to a full CF kit, hopefully better than whats out there now.

The full fiberglass kits are typically far heavier than a smaller partial product + the OEM aluminum hood that requires your install.

That would be the obvious choice, but if you look under your hood to see the ram air snorkle attached to the cold air box, you will see that it's not optimal. Firstly, the OEM snorkle is undersized, restricting air flow; secondly, the air that it inducts is coming off of the air running off the FMIC. We suspect that the turbo may be even taking air away from the FMIC, or if not at the very least taking considerable air directly from the engine bay. Considering that there are no hood vents, lots of hot air is being swept up from the underbody to the top of the under-bonnet area, making it a prime suspect to be sucked in.

We can improve on those issues with our design, which circumvents the hot engine air by taking all the cool air running off of the hood, much like how the Tacomas are doing with the TRD sport.
