Crack open the owners manual, its all in there. Keep in mind payload is for the vehicle as a whole so that includes you and anything in the cab.
Door jam is a much better place than owners manual, it gives the exact GVWR for the vehicle you actually own.

Also remember the payload on the sticker is as the vehicle came from the factory. Any changes you have made (mods) that add weight to the vehicle reduce that number.

2019 FX4 with a short bed. Any ideas on total weight I can put in there?
In theory, this is Soupie, a 2WD XL Scab - 1,882 pounds:

But after a year and a half on this forum, Soupie can barely do 10 pounds! =D

I should weigh all the crap vital gear, that this forum forced me to buy. It has to be around 200 pounds! =p

The farmer answer is to load it up till the axle touches the bump stops/jounce bumpers then add a smidge more. The legal answer is to see what the door jamb sticker says.

My Scab is rated for 1620lbs from the factory. I've had 2400lbs in the bed before (plus me and my girlfriend) and that was too much. We were only going about 2 miles, never above 35mph, but it was bottomed right out. Second biggest load was about 1600lbs (again, plus me and girlfriend) and while you could tell it was loaded it felt much more normal and manageable. I'd say you're good to go to your door number in the bed, plus maybe another 300-400 for passengers and BS.

That's 1/2 a ton last I mathed. Should Ranger be more than half a ton? Nah.

@subquark is the forum expert on anything dump related
Hey, they don't call me dumpy for nothing, ya know! =D

Even little kids walking by say "hey, look, there's our dumpy neighbor!"

It's all about respect. =p
