My research into the 10R80 shift strategy

Rev matching on downshifts? This isn't a BMW or Mercedes. Or even a Mustang or Raptor.
You guys are expecting a lot out of what was supposed to be a budget truck and was an outdated platform when it showed up in the US.

All autos rev match when they downshift, this one is no different, if you slow down it will let the revs go down then shift to a lower gear and blip up the revs to match and so on and so forth. The fact is what op is describing is definitely not right and he is definitely operating his vehicle very very incorrectly. Now for a manual that is a slightly different story but we don't have manuals

I've only had my 23 XLT a few weeks but I find the transmission logic completely unacceptable. The most offensive to me is the part throttle performance driving around town, 20-40 mph. It always feels like its hesitating / trying to decide what to do. I prefer sport mode the best but like others have said it can be too aggressive in traffic. My 2018 Edge shifts perfectly, my 2009 Sport trac had a few quirks but this Ranger is just bonkers. I have 20 and 53 yr old Classic cars that shift way better than this thing.

Please stop. They don't adapt to you. This is a very common misconception, transmission adaptives are not for 'learning the driver' they are for the TCM to learn the internal operations of the transmission and adjust parameters to meet defined performance targets.

The programming does blip the throttle on downshifts to smooth out the gear change.

While the Ranger is a budget truck, the 10R80 transmission is the same unit that is used in the Raptor, hardly a budget truck. The only difference is our torque converter and programming to match the 2.3L's power output.

What maintenance has been done to it?

Just my routine oil changes. I’ve gone off the trucks oil percentage rather than tracking by time or mileage. Only check engine light I’ve had was an O2 sensor being triggered by my blowoff valve not operating correctly but once I switched back to OEM it cleared itself. I plan on keeping this truck for years and if the tranny does finally go, I’ll invest in a new one as it’s cheaper than buying a new rig especially after the time and love I’ve put into her ??

Presume that is all 'D' shifting - wonder what the sport mode does differently.

On my ‘20 Ranger,
Drive is gears 1,3,5678…
Tow mode doesn’t skip 2nd and 4th, and holds each gear a little longer- also downshifts when the brake is applied.
Sport mode is whatever you make it. Not fond of the delay from my prompt to shift, to it actually shifting.
In Drive, you can eliminate the gears from 10 down, handy in the city.

So , how might one accelerate the inevitable demise of this transmission ? Im aware most people want it delayed as long as possible , but i want it over with , and , according to my dealers , mine isnt "broke enough" , so i say lets get on with it and maybe i can spend some time in a proper shifting truck before MY inevitable demise...

Ummmmm for me I just drove normally and went offroading once a month lol. Maybe high load stuff?

IDK I was just going by what ford was saying, and yes I know it also adapts based on the wear of the components
