It’s specifically a ring that is used for the ABS. I had no idea what it was either until I googled it. Guess they are prone to snapping on the escapes, routinely. Requires a few very specific tools so I thought F it and let Auburn Ford handle it.I'm not sure what the "tone" is...
Yes there is a transmission fluid temp sensor PED...I monitor it constantly and interestingly, the range is all over the place...but is usually with 10 degrees of the engine temp...there's no way this trans could maintain a constant temp of 170-180F due to it's proximity to engine crankcase and that's normally around 200F...without a load or extreme changes in driving the temp has ranged from 190 to 210F...same as the engine...There is indeed a temp sensor in the transmission. Else I and others would not have measured a difference in temperature with and without a PPE pan. It would simply track the coolant.
The ULV Fluid (And several other 'new' fluids) are designed to operate at what would normally be considered 'high' temperatures. I wouldn't be the least bit concerned until you start getting upwards of 240* and I haven't heard of a Ranger getting that high yet.

The reason the trans can be lower than the engine is that the engines temp is regulated by the thermostat, whereas the trans cooler, oil cooler, and maybe turbo coolant tap off before the thermostat, so they are getting coolant at whatever temp it is in the radiator. When the radiator finally comes up to the point where the fan ramps up, that's when you see the trans and engine temp both rise together.Yes there is a transmission fluid temp sensor PED...I monitor it constantly and interestingly, the range is all over the place...but is usually with 10 degrees of the engine temp...there's no way this trans could maintain a constant temp of 170-180F due to it's proximity to engine crankcase and that's normally around 200F...without a load or extreme changes in driving the temp has ranged from 190 to 210F...same as the engine...
After replacing the sensor so many times, I was just at the point of “just let ford do it so then it’s done”ABS Tone Rings shouldn't break... there is no stress or wear points. Must be a bad manufacturing batch.
