Very true, I worked in aerospace manufacturing for 37 years and no matter how good the design you’ll get a percentage of lemons. But, I have also seen tear down of the 10R80 and Ford did cheap out in areas, probably because of cost. The tranny can be improved. Even Toyota isn’t immune from these issues.
Yup! If Ford built this truck with top of the line everything it would be a $75,000 mid size truck and no one would buy it.

Spend the money on a new transmission when time comes it will be cheaper. :like:
If you plan on keeping the truck have yours rebuilt at a shop that typically does performance builds, they would (I’m assuming) know how to improve and make it reliable. Where can you buy a “new” one? Aren’t most rebuilt?

Kind of what I meant. New would be Ford, why start over. :headbang:

The problem is, and what pisses people off is, over here - it is!

That's not bad since the last time I checked the Aussie dollar was worth less than n fifty cents US.
And you get a diesel.

Ford keeps settling out of court.
and its a scam between Ford and lawyers, they do this because they know something... and this removes liability after, the second you cash that check for $1 you no longer have recoarse against them for anything transmission if something else comes up

Could you link the video? I would be interested in watching it for educational purposes. I’ve been mostly happy with my 10 speed though it isn’t as smooth or fast shifting as a family members Denali.

If I can find it I will, it is on YouTube, I have seen a couple of them and don't remember which one specifically it was. This transmission and the 8 speed were a joint venture with GM. Mine shifted better when it was new and I am now at 54K and I have noticed a few issues, sometimes it is butter smooth shifting and sometimes not. I think a lot is software but I am noticing some slipping now when I get on it. I have had mine in the dealer but of course they don't see it. I do have a 125K extended warranty but would really rather not have to use it. Good luck to you, I like the truck, no doubt there.

I thought the 10 speed for rwd applications and the 9 speed fwd application were what they worked on together? I’ve driven some of the GM trucks with the 8 speed and only the Colorado/Canyons were consistently smooth in operation. I bought my Ranger with 77k on the clock and my only issue I’ve noticed is if I lightly hit the gas to inch forward in traffic, let off and then get back on it to pull onto the service road or something, it refuses to respond for about three seconds.

Let's start adding up what some of us are spending on our Rangers on top of the purchase price... you may be right.

I feel like I have noticed this too. I bought mine used at 35k miles. I'm at 38k so I'm going to have the trans fluid and filter changed soon to see if that helps.

Wonder if it’s turbo lag? This is my first turbo’d vehicle and picked this over the Colorado because I eventually plan on getting a teardrop camper when I finish nursing school and wanted something that will perform well in higher elevations as well as sea level where I currently live.

I think this is the one I watched, or one of a few! It's a decent tutorial. This tranny is out of a 2019 Mustang which used the same trans, I'm sure there are differences internally i.e. perhaps heavier clutch packs, not really sure but overall its the same design.
