I think a good alternative for filling from the top would be a transmission funnel with hose extension to fill hole in place of using a pump. Just a though. ?

I drained mine by pumping out fluid with 3/8 nylon hose and got 7 quarts out...

A longer hose should be able to accomplish the same result with less mess...

LOL, that's the same pump I have. I made the mistake of not putting a clamp on the outlet tube the first time I used it, AND I powered it off of an 18 volt battery.

You can see where this is going.

The ATF went EVERYWHERE, all over my Type-S, and inside the truck slightly since I had the windows down.

And I had a truck with no transmission fluid in it, so I couldn't just move it out of the garage and wash it off, (I could have rolled it I suppose).

Off topic, but funny story, don't let it happen to you if you buy one of those. Take some time and a couple hose clamps and clamp those @#$@# hoses on. Don't be me and assume 'those fittings are barbed and pretty tight, should be fine'.

Back on topic.

The little nylon hose should fit down the dipstick hole I would think, It is pretty narrow and stiff.

I did much the same with that same pump. Managed to spray down the inside of my engine bay and my face.

Lol, I have an excuse. I did it on my Friday off, which means I went home after working all night (and 9 12-hour shifts out of 14 days), grabbed about 2 hours of sleep, and then force myself to get up and do things. Usually, things that don't require me to interact with the wife, because I'm a bit of an insufferable bitch on those days and best left alone to get things done.

Needless to say, I was even EXTRA bitchy when she got home that evening.

It always falls into the "it should be okay" category.

I never had that kind of fail, but, I used to pressurize the gallons of gear oil with compressed air through a small hole in the top, then with the fluid hose to the bottom of the jug through the sealed cap, it worked fine until I gave it just a wee bit too much air pressure, split the jug and blew 90 weight with the hypoid additive everywhere, never had such a stinky mess in my life, I was literally covered in oil, took half the day to clean up and then I had to go buy more oil... and a pump, but it was a manual pump.

Back when I was 16 I pulled a 3 speed manual out of my 57 Chevy to replace the clutch. The car was parked on our asphalt parking pad. The pad wasn't level at all, with pine tree roots raising up the asphalt in places.

The plan was to pull the tranny out on my chest and slide it over beside me. Back then the bell housing could be separated from the transmission. As I tipped the transmission out, that 90 weight began flowing out the tail shaft. I didn't have a lift, just a jack and some concrete blocks and 4x4s to raise the car. I was directly under the the transmission, head at the bell housing and feet down towards the rear axle. I remember that I had a yellow knit shirt on.

It was a simple task, remove the linkages and speedo cable, Driveshaft, then 4 bolts on the bell housing, and tug. This was my first experience pulling a transmission, and with 90 weight gear oil.

As the transmission tipped tail down that oil ran all over my shirt soaking me to the skin! But I had gone too far to stop now...just a few more inches and it would be out! The oil was already on me, so best to finish the job quickly.

Then it started to rain! South Florida (way south of Miami) has a monsoon season, and it typically rains every afternoon for 2-3 hours. By now that lube had slowly flowed off me and I was laying in puddle of 90 weight under me as well!

Then as it rained the water level rose 2" and so did the gear oil! My knit shirt soaked up the water and the oil like a sponge! The back of my head was coated in gear oil. Nasty stuff.

The shirt was thrown away as my mother refused to allow it in the washer! It took a lot of work in the shower to get that gear lube out of my hair. I don't recall what I used, but soap was not enough. I think kerosene was involved. It was a stinky gooey sticky mess. Stupid 16 year old learned his lesson that day.

Okay, bit of a update, finally got the stencil revised, I wanted it to look more like the factory stick, ran a test piece. I'm very happy with the results, it's clearer than the factory marking on the other side.

I made it so where the marking on other side that says "do not add in cross hatch area, check hot in park" the bottom of the crosshatch is 4 1/2 on the Ranger marking I added, the Ranger is supposed to be between 4-5, does that make any sense? I did it so if someone reads the backside of the stick and sets the fluid level by that, the level will still be correct.

The bracket and top fitting parts are supposed to ship in about 10 days, then it's off to have hoses made, taking forever but progress is going well at this point.

I made the marking jig, seems to work well, I machined a slot for a magnet to hold the stick flat and epoxied it in, the clamp holds the tip, seems to work quickly and well, I got lucky, got a ancient electro-etcher off ebay for $150, the stencil company wanted $450 plus the marking contact.

I still have to make the heat shrink shaping jig, haven't quite figured that one out yet, I may plug one of the test hoses at the bottom and fill it with a liquid 2 part epoxy, so the hose will harden in the perfect position, then make the jig to that shape.

Things are moving along well, I cant wait, it's going to get busy as soon as the parts hit.

Okay, that's the latest.
