As the title suggests. I am wanting to buy a new Ranger, hopefully near the end of July. I have been shopping around and of course there was one Tremor locally I looked at before it sold. My wife insists on the pushbutton start, though it will be my truck as she has a 22 Bronco Sport. Dealers within a few hours drive have Roush's, Black Widows for acceptable pricing. I initially was looking for just Tremor's, but a dealer a couple hundred miles away has some Waldock Rangers, one I like is the 22 Rampage with the 3.5" lift and 33's. The price is inline with the others with the expensive packages. Part of what draws me to the Waldock is it is already set up nicely. The other reason is my wife of 40 years can be a PITA and does not share my love of doing my own customization, thinking that if I did not like it that way, why did I Buy it.:headbang:

So, I am asking the brain trust here if anyone has experience with the Waldoch trucks, they seem pretty rare.

Thanks.

Those Waldock builds look like they have 20" rims. I wouldn't call that "set up nicely" for anything but mall crawling.
They would work for me where I live. I would like a bit more rubber but for the snow and Ice we get 7 months out of the year that in itself is not an issue.

Just personal preference, but if snow/ice is your concern I'd just buy an FX4, do aftermarket suspension, and get a good set of snow tires. Wide rubber band 33s sounds like a nightmare on snow/ice.

These are my current 4X4's and they do great in snow and ice. Though I am dumping the Jeep soon.

The first question is what do you want the truck to do? All those trucks have very different purposes, and most are just for show. Do you want to go off-road, street performance, park'n'polish, or daily driver with moderate MPG, and occasional truck type activities?

I have what may be an unpopular opinion but I think vehicles are best thought of as either transportation (something for taking you, passengers, and/or your stuff from one place to another) or as a hobby (something you show off, have just to have, or for something like offroading).

If you're interested in the former I think a factory truck is going to give you less issues than something that's been customized by a third party. For example if you have a warranty issue you can just take it to the dealer and not have to worry about who covers what. And it's more likely to have all the bits tested to a high standard.

If you're interested in hobby aspect of it having something that's a blank slate seems like it gives you more opportunity to do your own thing.

Either way it seems like getting the tremor would be a more rational choice than something like a Roush or the Waldock unless what you really want is that vehicle and the sense that you have something uncommon or special because of the nameplate. Having said all that don't let me, or anyone else on this forum, tell you how to spend your money to maximize your happiness.

It is going to be a multi purpose rig. I am down sizing. I just sold my wife's 1996 Chevy HD 3/4 ton truck and the old Dodge. I went from 2 trucks to no trucks. I have been driving the Rubicon for a year, and while it is an awesome off road beast it is lacking on icy roads and has zero ability to haul, not to mention crappy trailer towing ability.

It is going to be a daily driver. The smaller size and greater gas mileage than a 3/4 ton 4X4 are a big consideration. It cost me $100 a week for gas to commute to work in the Dodge, where the Ranger would be about $25. I no longer have horses so the 3/4 ton 4x4's are not needed, but a truck is. Where I live in rural North Dakota I need to transition from highway, to mud, to snow and ice on a sometimes daily basis. The mild lift and 33's and corresponding ground clearance are a huge plus to me. Having lived in this country for 28 years I have learned a few things about the types of snow we get here and the fact that it may take a week to get the roads cleared. I don't much care for the 20" wheels, but what I meant by "nicely set up" was the tonneau cover, spray in bed liner, trailer hitch and the tech package.

I plan to keep the vehicle long term so resale value is not really a consideration. I am leaning heavily on the Waldoch as the only thing I might want to do later is add some more lighting as when its dark here its DARK, and swap out the wheels and tires, I like the 33's but go a bit narrower. The only time I have found wider tires to be a detriment is if you lack the power to turn them, I prefer them on the dodge as it is so heave floatation tires are not......The jeep on the other hand......

I'd go with the tremor, and tell the wife to "deal with" you customizing it the way you like with the bedliner/cover/lift/wheels/tires/whatever.

You've been together for 40 years right... so.. by now she should hopefully respect, understand, and be supportive of your endeavors.. whatever they may be. You deserve the truck you want... not guff about it.

Don't think you'll find much support for a pre-modded truck on here, and I'm with them. You'd be better off getting an FX4 or Tremor if you can find it, and mod from there. And if you're going to actually work/haul with the truck, then the cheap BDS lift and big wheels might not be your friend. I'd suggest a quality leveling kit (Bilstein, Fox, Eibach, etc) that doesn't involve spacers, and if snow is a concern then a set of duratrac's or dedicated snow tires.
