What the hell is going on with this thread?! Some of you guys need to chill.

Dude lost a job in tech. Could he go get a job at Lowe's? Yea. Does it fit his skill set and income requirements? I'm thinking not. Can he relocate? He said "no."

Damn people. Have some compassion.
OP is seeking advice on how to keep his truck while he is out of work. He keeps his truck by working, even if it’s not his dream job. There is PLENTY of work available out there. Find something, keep your truck, pay your bills, and keep looking.

You might have a point. I couldn't say as I've never been 67 before.

But I'm betting that searching for a job at that age pride plays a big role. And even necessity. Do you need a job? Or are you looking for something in particular? At that age I'd guess the job seeker to be very discerning.

In my adult life I've never been without a job for more than a week. That includes job searching deep in the heart of the recession. I've never understood the "I've been job searching for months and can't find anything" comments. I suspect those folks either don't really want or don't really need a job.

Hell, watch this.

OP, I can get you a job oppurtunity in Colorado. No experience needed. Hard work but 70k/year with no requirements other than a clean MVR. PM me if interested.

Betcha I never hear from him.
My last job I got when I was 65 but tick-tock I doesn’t get easier..

i think you will find refinancing relatively easy with or without work, assuming you paid the bill on time for 3 years of lease... Fair chanve the dealer will just switch it over for you, or you've probably got junk mail offering a lower rate car loan.. call them up. Your credit score matters more than your current employment. A car is easier to get a loan for because it can be repossessed. Hopefully you find a new job soon good luck.

Here's a new thought; buy out the lease, turn around and sell it at a profit, provided its not trashed, and finance the job hunt for as long as it takes to find what you want. Tech jobs are work from anywhere jobs so don't need a truck, more of a want.
Good luck with the search. Keep in mind sometimes you need to take one step back to get 2 steps forward.

Find a job. Any job. Don't be proud and don't tie yourself to your previous expereriences.

I've never understood this "I'm trying to find a job." Claim.

They are literally falling off trees.
This. Even if temporary, some money is better than no money.

Or join us in law enforcement. Long as your background isn't super sketch its 100% job security and every agency is hurting for people.

Pay might be great or pay may be shit. Depends on local economics.

I'd say get whatever job you can find for now.
I owned a small business that the '08-'16 recession crushed (I'm still paying on it), went to mortuary school in my early 50's for a more recession-proof career, when I finished there weren't any funeral jobs in western PA and moving wasn't an option then or now so I drove a truck as a gopher for an HVAC company for 6 months and drove a cab for the railroad for 6 months until I found a full-time job in my field. Also drove for Lyft in my old Sport Trac.
I have a B.A. in economics, an MBA, and after mortuary school an associates degree and I was driving an effing cab hauling rail crews around at all hours day and night. Paid well but easily the worst job I've ever had by a long shot.
Everybody's personal situation is different but I'd say leave California if possible. The job situation there isn't going to get better. We only stayed here to take care of our parents and now the only one left is my mom. I got my Florida funeral director license and when mom's gone, she's 87, we're outta here.

There's a time to build a career, and there's a time to find a job.

Sometimes people's job's become their careers.
This is true.
I took a job as a security guard in 2008, and 14 yrs later was still at the same site as a supervisor. A job had become a career quite by accident.

That's a tough situation.

I would echo what some here have said and reach out to the/A finance (dealer) company and explain the situation. They may be willing to work with you on either extending lease, or offering a loan. I would say credit score and assets probably counts for something. And it is a vehicle they could come and take it back if you don't pay - They have that in their favor.

D Fresh, I absolutely appreciate the comment and opportunity. If I were in Colorado, I would take you on that offer. Unfortunately I am not in a situation to relocate out of state. I don't need to sit here and explain my situation to someone that's a complete stranger online. But for you and the other commenter, had I known this process would had take months long, obviously I would had taken the first hourly job I could take. But when I have my past 10 years of professional experience at a certain salary level, and on networking calls with recruiters and interviews every week for possible jobs betting on myself, I'd expect one of them to work out, which hasn't unfortunately. And those interview processes in my industry are normal to last a month long, so it's an ongoing stop and start process as new ones come along. It's not like I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs not doing anything.
I can totally understand your sentiment above that you do not have to explain yourself to any of us here. You don't, curmudgeons will be curmudgeons. You do what is best for you, in your situation.

I would take some of these folks up on their offers to review resume, or put out feelers. who knows, maybe something will come from it . . . or maybe not.

As someone who is currently job searching myself, I get the desire to not just take any job. Job searching isn't like the old days where you mail off 25 resumes and wait for the mail to be returned. . . it is curated resumes for each role you apply for, following up via email, text or video calls. searching for possibilities that are out of your wheelhouse, but within your skill set.

We should have a job forum - opt-in only maybe where we can share linkedin information or members can post I am looking for a role in this arena etc . . . while this isn't the main part of this forum, it would be helpful to help each other out too. Sometimes all it takes is the right connection and bam, you're in a new role within 2 weeks. . . .

Hi all, unfortunately I was affected by the tech layoffs earlier this year. I've had a hard time finding a new job. I am active in interviews, and have good opportunities, but still no offer yet. I'd really hate to lose my truck, and def don't want to return it and pay fees for cosmetic damage + miles.

I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation before. I'm really really hoping I land a job before the lease runs out, so I can finance to buy it out. My credit score is good, but I won't have any cash to put down, or proof of the same solid annual income that I had last year.

Considering the circumstance, what would you recommend here? Is it possible I can still finance the truck before I land a job? Or is it time I just pick up any hourly job I can get and use that to prove I currently have reliable income? Lease ends July 1, 2023 and I'm in Los Angeles.
As someone that worked in both the consumer and mortgage lending industry many moons ago, I can tell you the first most bestest thing to do is speak to your lender/finance guy to see what your options are from his point of view. He can tell you pretty quickly how he can or cannot help you, and then you can make your informed decisions and plans from there.
Better to let him tell you "what is" before you worry and stress over "what if" needlessly.

At 67 years old not so much.. heck Walmart greeters are a thing of the past..
Very true. Got my degree at 45 and all I could find was short term contract work. Retired now 16 years later but being at the bottom of the pile the day after graduating stung.

it was a shock to me when the recruiter told me I should remove all dates off my resume, high school, college, military etc.

apparently being in your 40's does not make you the most desirable. . . something about requiring a certain level of income to pay your bills. . .
