So I have a 2021 Ranger. Are you guys buying a cover for the engine? I think I would like to get one. Anyone suggest a source for one besides dealer?

Thanks!
levittown ford is a forum member and may be able to get one for you. they used to be cheap like 40 or 50 bucks but now i think they are about 4 times that.

Anywhere. While Colorado isn't perfect. The place that dude is describing is a shithole.

Also, Colorado is full, you know that.
Full of Californians last time I was there.

It's really everywhere they're coming from now. At least half the kids I train at work are transplants. Mostly the coasts it seems like.

Covid and the work from home didn't help. And before that beig the first state to legalize recreational weed didn't help.

Even if I did agree with the politics of those moving here I'd still have to get out of here for retirement. I'm thinking south. The better half thinks north. Luckily we have a while to wrestle it out.

geez. better than nothing but still sad it just was not sent out with a engine cover that prevented the mess in the first place. so just out of curiosity, what had to take place for them to kick in 2k?? and is that money going to dealer to do the repair or to you?
There was a lot of back and forth from dealer to Ford in what seems like an appeal. $ is going to dealer I would assume.

geez those plugs at 40k miles look like they came out of a tractor that sat out in the field all winter with the hood off...
thanks for sharing the video
To me they looked good. I see nothing wrong with them.

Edit: To those laughing, I am serious. They are normal looking plugs. The shop manual plug pictures consider these normal looking plugs.

2nd state to legalize magic mushrooms but that should help to revitalize the influx of out of staters seeking holistic healing and happiness, however a current proposed bill would limit the size of home grow operations to a 12-foot-by-12-foot area - to me that seems like enough magic to allow for one hell of a lot of healing.

Update, I give credit where credit is due. Ford agreed to pay $2k of $3300 repair. Still not what I wanted but they at least budged. That was with help of my dealer friend
I WOULDNT ACCEPT IT, YOUR VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY IS IT NOT?

NO IT IS NOT.
COILS AND PLUGS ARE ONLY COVERED UNDER THE 3Y/36,000 MILE WARRANTY
THEY ARE COVERED FOR 2Y/24,000 UNDER THE 8Y/80,000 EMISSIONS WARRANTY AND ARE EXCLUDED AS A CONSUMABLE FROM THE 6Y/60,000 POWER TRAIN WARRANTY.

SHOULD IT BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY? YOU BET YOUR SWEET ASS IT SHOULD BUT FORD HAS USED THEIR MAGIC PEN TO WRITE PRETTY WORDS INTO THEIR WARRANTIES THAT EXCLUDES THEM FROM COVERING THESE PARTS.

WHAT'S MORE IS THAT 4 MOTORCRAFT PLUGS COSTS ABOUT $100 ONLINE AND THE COIL PACKS COST $65. ALL MOTORCRAFT AND ALL COVERED BY THE SAME 2YEAR WARRANTY THE FORD SERVICE SHOP IS GOING TO GIVE YOU - LABOR NOT INCLUDED.

Warranty coverages can vary from different mfg but I'm not aware of any that are going to cover stuff like spark plugs and ignition coils under their power train warranty, Hyundai/KIA widely markets their industry best 10yr/100k miles warranty but it only covers major powertrain components and I believe stuff like control modules are not covered, when you delve into OEM warranties you discover a lot of stuff that you think might be covered isn't or has lesser coverage.
So IMO Ford isn't much different from most makers, but the dealer markups on common items like spark plugs and ignition coils is absurd.

"What is not included in a powertrain warranty?

A powertrain warranty excludes every repair not associated with the engine, transmission, drive axle, turbocharger, or other parts that power the wheels. So, it excludes cosmetic items, electrical parts, air conditioning, steering, brakes, suspension, cooling system, fuel system, and more.Feb 14, 2023"

My advice...
And I didn't follow it last time but I wished I had.

Spend the extra $1000 o $1500 when you buy the truck to get the 10/100,000 warranty. My repair was $780 and wold have paid for most of that warranty. If you think about it, what can go wrong between 1 and 100,000 miles? How much is a typical shop visit? Worst case scenario you have no issues or only the rare cheap issues and you end up wasting $500. Over 10 years that is a cheap investment.

People laugh because I have Earthquake insurance. But it only costs me $16 a year to get my house covered. Repairing a house from an Earth Quake could cost upwards of $100,000 if it doesn't total it out as a complete loss. That means I'd have to have the insurance for 6,000 years before I lost money.

and I would try a different dealer but the next closest one is 2 hours away and they told me they don’t have any time for warranty work anytime in the future. They told me to call Ford and ask them what to do. All this for relatively minor issues doesn’t make me feel good in case I have more major problems in the future.
How far in the sticks do people live that the nearest Ford dealer is 2hrs away? I live in the dregs of Louisiana and there are 6 dealerships within 25 miles.

So I have a 2021 Ranger. Are you guys buying a cover for the engine? I think I would like to get one. Anyone suggest a source for one besides dealer?

Thanks!
Try our sponsor Levittown. anywhere else will be overpriced.

Wait a minute.

Your father-in-law works at the dealership and they still won't help you?

You're doing something wrong. And it's not with your truck.
Not after what he did to his daughter.

After all this, people will still say an extended warranty is a waste of money. Although I don't know if ESP cover this. It's not really a plug or coil issue, its a water control issue.

Which dealer in San Antonio ? If its the one I dealt with for my stolen tail lights, then I dont blame you for the sour taste. But dont let one bad apple spoil the bunch.

Well is Colorado really full ? Not according to our honorable gov's land bill use which would force municipalities to rezone single home parcels and developments into high density housing. If it passes we might be able to surpass the golden state in population. Maybe we'll even get to see the I-70 mountain corridor lined with high rises, I imagine a top floor dwelling will be in demand for those who enjoys watching wrecks and traffic jams. And yes this is apparently some folks perception of progress.

I left Colorado last year for many of the things mentioned, and more. I don't miss the rat race there, and I even lived a few miles into the Foothills of Golden.

Colorado was much nicer 20 + years ago. But I don't miss the bipolar weather and 13" of snow in June.
