Not familiar with these screws, help...

Hi all,

I figure a lot of you are way more versed with tools and various screws so I was wondering what I would need to buy to remove these screws? They look like a male torx screw but I couldn't google a female socket wrench for torx to remove it. Not sure if I even have the right terminology. Usually I see the female torx screw head and can use normal torx screwdrivers to remove but this is opposite. Sorry for sounding very mechanical illiterate. For context, this is on a 2023 Ford Explorer, not my Ranger. My Ranger has normal phillips screws...

A socket set with splines work on those as well.

I have a set similar to these from Amazon.

• Pass-Thru socket and ratchet system eliminates the need for deep sockets

Was cleaning out a lot of junk from my dads toolbox after he passed and came across many many socket sets of this style and thought, hmmpff, never seen those ever, never will, and tossed them into the bin for scrap recycling.
Guess I made a mistake.

Been turning Wrenches / Sockets since mid 80's and am amazed as to why we have so many different styles of screw and bolt heads, aircraft and automotive.
I sometimes think about marketing my own style and becoming a millionaire.
At least aircraft for the most part the size remains SAE, so I only have to keep SAE at work, the home toolbox has to have both SAE and Metric and throw in all the multiple options of screw head types, security head screws are a joke. (License Plate)
I mean, it's not like that package you buy with the (2 to 4) screws has only (1) screw drive bit that will fit it, so it actually takes away the main selling point of the package - Security, as they are mass produced with the same drive bit.
And then as a mechanic you run into, tight space applications and then need other sets such as stubby wrenches to get the task completed so the toolbox grows even more.
The tools themselves, quality has dropped quite a bit over the years (Craftsman & Snap-On Etc)
and they just don't last as long as they used too, at least they are Lifetime Warranty.

E torx. Specialty fasteners are a PITA. Just learned about JIS screws the other day after stripping one out using a Philips.

Yup next Amazon order I am getting a bag of these things. I'm done buying singles.

If I could I would JB weld an apple air tag to all of mine, then again I might not want to know where they all go, which is probably to the depths of hell to report back to their master they have once again driven a human insane.
