i think the frontier is ugly. i also think the frontier pro4x will be my next truck.
So honestly it’s hard for me to believe what they’re charging for these Frontiers. I mean definitely not bad but lacks a lot of the things the ranger has. Steering wheel is very hard to turn and I’ve never said that about any vehicle. Some weird vibrations in the pedal when accelerating quickly. Reminds me more of my 02’ Tacoma. Interior is much better though out with more storage. Rear cab space feels more cramped. I like the black ceiling in the truck though. Bedrails are really neat. Overall not a bad truck but for what they charge I’d be tempted to go up to a full sized. This is just first impressions but with my obsessive nature I can also pick apart every minor detail. Was my job to do that for years. ?

That was my plan, keep this truck for 8 years then give it to my oldest son. At this rate I’ll be lucky if I make it to next week lol. I am worried though that if the transmission issues get sorted out, this truck is fast and I know how dumb kids are. I picture him being a total idiot in Sport mode. I know I would have been if I didn’t get a little 4 cyl Tacoma when I first started driving. Governor hit at 104 on that truck ?. Never was able to get it to go faster…I tried a lot.
If it can be done...even only once...he'll do it...

Oh I know, 8 more years and he’ll be driving. He’s a mirror image of me in every way and that scares the hell out of me. I’m mean literally just yesterday he shattered the glass bulb in the ceiling fan from jumping on his bed then pretended like nothing happened. I’m supposed to let this kid drive?

yep. kids will be kids. i was saving a truck for nephew who is 12 now and the sister in law put her foot down. he not allowed to have it. it is not a super hot rod but it did have a 350, real dual exhaust, intake and tune. no traction control stability control etc. so im sure at some point it would have being hitting the governor and doing burnouts.... i mean - thats what i did with it back then lol.
i hope younger folks still get the freedom to be young and dumb that we did. i dont want folks getting hurt of course. just to have stupid fun within some amount of safety. but living under the foot of government and political nanny is no kind of freedom for the ones growing up. they are already tracked and marketed to 24/7 with a smart phone practically growing into the skin.

I believe the governor on the Ranger is 'only' 106, but it sure gets there quickly on a long straightaway.

Introduce them to driving games, my son (10) is terrifying in the virtual world. Did you know guard rails are so you can just floor it around corners? Because he uses them as that.

? I was actually thinking I may buy my kid a racing game for the PS5 that I convinced him to buy with his Christmas money. Might as well teach them when they’re young. I picture him just riding the guard rail the whole course.

If your kids are into video games check out g2a.com. They sell cd keys for a fraction of the price and then you download it. Ive got some good racing games for $5 on there.

Nice I’ll check it out. Is that for computers or the consoles? My kid has a small laptop we bought him and the PS5. I purchased a chess training program for him a year and an half ago and he took a liking to it and got really good. He has even played in a couple tournaments around our area. He’s hard to beat. I bet he would like racing games.

Hey everyone,
Long time lurker on this forum, didn’t think my first post would be this but here we go.

2019 XLT Sport Crewcab 20k miles.

I started having the dreaded rough shifting. Took it to the dealer 3 weeks ago and they performed the TSB for this. Luckily the tech drove it afterwards and noticed it got worse. They determined there was something wrong internally so they decided to “rebuild” my transmission. The 3 weeks was mostly waiting for parts (see attached photos of the write up).
Finally got it back yesterday and drove it ~100 miles. Happy to report so far so good! Shifts great! Little to no rough shifts(I assume there will be a few during the relearning process).

Just wanted to post this for informational purposes. Feel free to ask any questions, I will try to answer best I can.

Cheers,

Jason

First, so sorry to hear about this. Never fun to have to deal with this type of major repair work.

I'll ask here to you @zebrakja and others what does rough shifting mean exactly?

I have a 2020 Ranger with 35,000 miles - I've always felt downshifting/braking was weird - noisy and chattery. I've had a few times where the transmission was slow to respond and a little clunky at times - never terrible but it has been in the back of my mind that there may be transmission troubles.

Recently I went in for an oil change, I forced my dealer to check the transmission oil and it was one quart low. Shifted and sounded better after that but my concern lingers especially after these threads.

Thanks in advance for the info.

I first started experiencing what I am calling rough shifting when driving on colder days. It would go away after what I believe was the transmission fluid reaching operating temperature. My issue then began to get worse and I started having rough shifting on the lower gears (1-5) constantly. The only way to describe it is when shifting out of gear it would hesitate momentarily, then shift hard into the next gear.

Oddly enough, I never had a problem with downshifting.

I believe others were reporting that their transmissions were also low on transmission fluid.

Hope this helped.

Thanks this is super helpful. I guess I better get the dealership to "officially" look at it since I'm at the 35,000 mile mark.

Here’s the rental. I will say transmission is 1000 times smoother in the Frontier but the Ranger handles better and has way more power. Frontier mechanically feels older and slower but maybe that’s what we need lol. Btw this was a 23 model Enterprise car rental had and as usual tires are 10 pounds overinflated.
So damn ugly.
