Good to know on the past experience with heater hose.

I have read some people are getting it welded with some metal piping but that seems like a bit of work too.
As far as I know I'm the only verified one to actually have one installed with pictures. I ain't got time to go that far and weld it up. I spent enough time fighting it til i found the egr tab mounted to the manifold. The tubing is pretty thin. The saw cut right through it in seconds.

Ahh the other people welding it are from mustang forums. Not here.

I thought only the Ranger had the egr. Hmm.
They were 07-08 posts. I don’t care enough to look exactly what type of stang it was but was just looking at their manipulation of the EGR tube.

For future readers of this spacer install, the EGR tube has 2 sections of bellows built into it. Boomba addressed by stretching these bellows vs cutting. Not saying the cutting method is wrong, just that there might be a non-cutting option. Here’s an image and factory write up from the Explorer forums:

@RCMUSTANG - Thank you for posting about this install. Since our trucks have EGR and I believe you have a catch can by the looks of some of those black rubber hoses under intake manifold with worm clamps on them, I would love to hear your observations on soot / filth / goop / etc build up either in the manifold or cylinder head combustion chambers when you had them separated? Nasty dirty or looking good in your opinion? Thanks!

There's no way I could have stretched that tube. Unless you unbolt the whole thing to try that good luck. Getting to the tube at the valve side is even worse.

Based on what's visible on the head intake port it's dry and and not wet with oil. So I see that as a plus. Oddly the front of the throttle body was completely dry but some gunk was built up on the back side. I do regularly empty the catch cans.

That’s outstanding to hear regarding the cleanliness! How approx how many miles on the odometer is your truck at these?

And totally agree regarding regarding the stretching of the tube. Would def have to remove from the truck completely if any chance of stretching it.

Something interesting is that since (from everything I can find on the subject) EGR is closed at full throttle, the actual EGR tube is being pressurized by boost pressure from its intake manifold connection up to the EGR valve. From all cutaways and diagrams I’ve seen, no check valve is in place to keep boost pressure contained in the intake manifold vs pressurizing the EGR tube too.

Currently at 33,549 miles.

It's a small tube. It's a non issue being pressurized as far as I'm concerned.

Christmas finally happened. Should help with the top heavy and lifted rear of the truck since Ford
didn't bother with one. 95% on road will benefit from this. And would only take a few minutes to unbolt before i take off to offroad. Took a couple hours but it's done.

So, after the first full tank I've gained about 1.4-1.5 mpg with the intake spacer. My usual MPG a tank is 21.3-21.4. I'm always within 0-.1 compared to manual calculation. I got 22.9 on the gauge and manual calculation was 22.8 MPG. I've had more traffic than normal. It showed in my lifetime MPH. I was at 28 MPH when I did the install. It went down to 26, then back to 27 when I filled up again. Still lower speed than when I started. So, take what you will from the gains I've recorded the first tank.

Boost pretty much renders it negligible. Most dynos don't show anything or maybe a few hp which could be margin of error. Steeda claims a single digit increase for the 2.0 it was originally made for.
Kudos for actually putting on a manifold spacer after the thread discussing them concluded there wouldn't be a power gain though it might change the driving experience.

I had contacted Steeda offering my truck as a test base if they wanted to make a spacer for our trucks but they said they weren't exploring the platform as they didn't think there was sufficient market.

Yeah, on wot I don't think you'll see much if any. At low speed non-boost situations is where I believe the gains are. That equates to better mileage. That was what I saw when I saw their spacer over the other designs. All people want to see are dyno numbers but those are done at wot. Longer runners equal more low speed airflow without boost in the equation. It may have moved the torque band down a bit which is fine by me given that it's a truck. It is the same spacer they market for the mustang and other 2.0 ecoboost motors. Although, the other than mustang version was cheaper. Not sure why.

When I installed my intercooler pipes I put just the cold side one on for a week. Perceived power went down but my MPGs shot up. If you're looking to be the MPG king of 5G it may be worth a look.

I did full pipes quite a while ago. And there's no way to be king in LA when better traffic conditions can net better mileage with stock trucks.
