Is the 'Fake Engine Noise' for real?

I'm just curious.
I keep seeing folks mentioning it and even see folks using FORscan to remove it, but I have a hard time believing this is a thing.
I don't have FORscan to see if it's an option to remove it, so I guess I can't rightly argue it's not a thing. But it just seems really weird that Ford would waste engineering time to put this in.
Enlighten me.

If you floor the pedal, you can hear it go BRAPAPAPAP...not very loud but it stands out because the exhaust is quiet...I rarely hear it because I don't go WOT often...

I have it and my wife thinks it sounds like a V8 ?. Wondering if it's a Lariat thing.

That noise you hear when WOT IS the fake engine sound...stick your head out the window and the sound goes down because it's coming from the speakers...

For me it's an economic choice.

Floor it or buy eggs.

I suppose once they take my stove and I can't cook eggs, I'll be able to floor it any time I want!

The real "fake" noise, I have an XLT and dont hear it. My cab is pretty quiet and if I had to guess it is probably a noise cancellation processing.
