To fully understand the operation:Ok guys so all key fob features still work on the truck including remote start same on my ford app through my phone. Truck still Auto Unlock’s when I walk up. I did test opening doors from inside without my key fob inside the truck while locked and the anti theft didn’t go off. Something I can ask a stereo/alarm shop about. I do know that I noticed the fake engine sound when my truck was completely stock it was subtle so I didn’t mind at all but after having my speakers replaced sub and amp added it was very loud on full throttle and sounded horrible. It is gone now but I’ll figure this other thing out now.
1. Passive entry - auto unlock from the door handles, the antenna ties into the system but the main ones for this function is the (Door Handle Antennas)
2. The PATs antennas are to activate the (passive entry) part of the FOB, as you approach the truck from any angle, the antennas read the FOB is near (including the rear antenna)
3. The alarm portion is set off by the Door Ajar switches, if a Valid FOB is not read, or an authorized point of entry - (valid unlock) - Forced Entry
4. When you are in the truck and press the start (PB) the BCM, PATs and the PCM are looking for a valid conformation from the FOB (that it is a true programmed) FOB for the truck and this allows the transition to start the truck. The main antenna being the - Center Antenna, but it is looking at all antennas and is the FOB within range of any of them.
5. The Ford Pass uses the TCU for the Entry, and the Remote Functions of the FOB (Door Lock/Unlock) uses the RTM (Radio Transceiver Module)
Does disconnecting it really have a drastic disadvantage, no not really as the other 3 antennas are still functioning.
The only thing I see that would come into play would be - If the FOB is in the backseat, out of range from the other 3 antennas, and you attempt to start the truck, you MAY get a (No Key Detected) message - due to the fact the rear antenna cannot see the FOB.
Full cabin coverage - when all antennas are working, you have eliminated just a small part of that coverage.
Think along the lines of a (Wi-Fi Dead Zone)
This also would play a small part in (approach) since it cannot read the FOB if approaching from the Rear, it just will not (Pre-Wake) the passive entry as you are approaching from the rear, but you still have the door handle antennas active for this.
