Stop bringing logical criticism into this. They are going to save the earth! Everyone must make sacrifices including you and your water needs. No one will profit off of these sacrifices you make to save the earth.

I noticed dukecanbuildit liked a post - so this brings to mind - our neighbors to the north have huge amounts of fresh water that they have absolutely no idea what to do with, in the words of TJ :

The "acquisition of Canada," predicted former President Thomas Jefferson, "will be a mere matter of marching."

Duke be forewarned, best make sure you have a good supply of poutine in store. we are coming to siphon.

Actually, most of the total area of the Great Lakes is in the U.S. - our shared border runs through Superior, Huron, Erie, and Ontario. Lake Michigan is entirely in the U.S. and most of Superior and Huron on the U.S. side as well.

There are compacts, treaties, and agreements between Canada and the U.S. at the State, Provincial, and Federal levels that protect the quality, quantity, and use of the resource. Mostly to protect the more heavily populated U.S. side, I would think. More skin in the game.

I’m not sure Jefferson’s 1812 prediction is the best one to quote. We all know how that went…

When I moved to Oregon in 1992, we had dirt cheap hydroelectric. Then they started selling it to California for a premium. Now we pay the premium price. I keep waiting for California to fall into the ocean as was promised in 1968.

Looks like NV could be the second in the US to have a lithium mine. The mine will be the prospective supplier for both Ford and Toyota that could produce enough lithium for 370,000 electric vehicles a year.

I'm not sure how they think this is good news seeing as we out here in the west are in a serious drought? Lake Mead is at record low levels now and mining for lithium takes 500,000 gallons of water to extract 1 ton of lithium. ?‍♂

I had to go back and research. For a second I thought, is this were the Bundy Ranch stand off was in Nevada? No that was probably just another piece of land with vast resources the gov wanted.

It is amazing seeing some areas change over time but seems to happen quickly and by most accounts not for the better, I remember friends going to live in Portland in the early 70s and giving glowing accounts of life in Oregon. Likely similarities from what I've witnessed in Colorado where they are planning to build more reservoirs to facilitate population growth. Now there are some Ranger owners on here - mostly younger I believe who moved to Colorado and think it's awesome. I remember about 5 yrs back skiing at Keystone which is very popular with out of staters, riding the lifts making small talk and revealing I lived in CO for 40 yrs - maybe 2/3 said they were planning on moving here, had to bite very hard on my tongue to keep from saying - don't you f**in dare.

Evaporative lithium collection evaporates enormous amount of water. Evaporation basically boils the water and the steam escapes into atmosphere after which it is lost permanently.
