The specs on the tires I bought were listed as 31.7". If anyone asks what size I say just under 32. Maybe people just round up to the next even inch
See that I’ve heard I’ve never heard someone call it a 32 but to each their own you know

When I had my Wrangler Big Bear it came stock with 265/70/17 and all the JK guys referred to them as 32s.

In actuality, a 265/70/17 from 5 different manufacturers would likely be 5 different diameters.

My 265/70/17 tires self-identify as 32s so don't go hating on them :sunglasses:

of course it matters to the person who gets the anomaly, but 10 pages of voodoo to avoid the same thing is ridiculous.
It is a discussion. An exchange of ideas. No one must read or believe anything written. It is simply a free and open discussion. Opinions are good things... It means we have the freedom of speech. We are all free to choose to be intelligent, ignorant, opinionated, and.... ridiculous! Isn't this WONDERFUL! Welcome to the club.

WHOA, thanks for clearing that up! (I absolutely love it when someone replies to one person's opinion by defensively stating that people have opinions.)
Opinions are good things
Not really; especially when people start egging each other into cargo cult science. If you restricted the set to informed opinions I'd agree that those are good.

Re: Clearing that up
You're welcome!

Re: Opinions are good things - Not Really
And who gets to delineate what is "science" and "informed opinions" vs "cargo cult opinions" ?

I welcome and consider ALL opinions. I never try to squelch anyone from speaking up.

Simply stating an opinion is not egging anyone... it is simply stating an opinion. Life is much too short to take any of this too seriously, or as a personal affront.

If you find what I say offensive, then I am sorry for that(that you find it offensive). It was never meant that way... it is simply an opinion.

Kindest Regards!

265/70/17s are 31.6s not 32s a 32 is a 275/70/17 at 32.2 then 285/70/17 is a 32.7
each of these will change slightly depending on tire manufacturing but this is the standard that 265=31 275=32 285=33
Again.

You CANNOT tell a tire's height by width alone. Some of you people act as though every tire has the same aspect ratio.

My 255s are 33". 33.1" to be exact.

Listing a tire by width alone is vague at best, ignorant at worst.

All the Jeep folks I know use American standard sizing and backspacing. For example my YJ rolls on 32x10.5r15 Coopers. In my experience Jeep folks know very little about metric tire sizing.

im talking about all 3 numbers lined up.... not just one number alone just didnt feel like listing the 70/17 3 more times when at the end.....

if you are running a 255 and its a 33.1 its you are running a 255/80/17 correct? i ran that size years ago was a good tire size until it was at off camber sections.

older vehicles with 15s and such sure but jlu's jku's (hell even the xj people! and some days we are shocked they can read!) everyone i know calls it by metric when you get technical about it.

I get you.

But I don't really call XJs, JLs, or JKs Jeeps.

Jeeps have 4 leaf springs.

Also...
