I thought with 2023 we were not gonna take any shots at Tracy….wow. That lasted a whole day…
Not that I'm sticking up for Dave but I never saw her name mentioned. Just saying. ?

As for bed capacity: a 4x2 Scab can take 1,860 lbs in the bed and a 4x4 Scab can take 1,650 lbs. That in my mind is a pretty big tree branch! ?
Crazy. Just checked the payload sticker on the new one. Barely more than the Ranger had..

I sold an F150 and bought a Ranger. 2 things . . . . Parkability and price. My prior F150 wasn't too big to drive, but it was nightmarish I'm busy parking lots and parking decks. Also saved at least 10k on the price, maybe more.
My sentiments exactly, my '18 F150 was for me a stop gap vehicle till the new Rangers started being produced in'19 it was just to cumbersome and i had the SCab with 6.5 bed, not the biggest model available.

I am in the market again for a truck after 10 years and 183k miles on my 2013 F150 STX Scab. I like the styling and engine in the Ranger. I am a little concerned with storage and towing though.
I am an Arborist but generally do not haul around a lot of gear and do not tow a lot of heavy equipment. I have a 100lb golden that rides in the rear seat area regularly on our drives to and from our lake place along with all gear for our stay. I have a 3000lb boat I have to drop in the lake and recover after our stay. I plan on taking the boat on a few trips to Florida, usually less than 10 hours from our home in the Atlanta area.

I wanted Ranger owner's opinions before I make a purchase.

Thanks in advance

John
Size and economical power. Fits in the garage #1. Tows my 22’ boat with ease #2. Very fun to drive #3.

My current daily driver is a ‘02 F-150 SuperCrew (purchased new 21 years ago next week). Due to the current F-150 SuperCrew increased size and price, I’m hopeful the next generation Ranger will be my next truck. My previous truck was an ‘94 XLT SuperCab Ranger, but I moved up to the F-150 when we planned on starting a family (needed a crew cab for kids car seats).

The only reason I’m NOT in a Ranger now is the lack of a SuperCrew/longbed configuration. My kids are now teenagers, so a crewcab is a must and I don’t want a bed smaller than the 5 1/2’ bed I have now. If the ROW Ranger comes to the NA market with a SuperCrew/longbed I’ll definitely be ordering one.

As you can see, the current Ranger is almost the same size as my ‘02 F-150. After seeing images of SuperCrew/longbed prototypes in Australia and US, I’m hopeful the ‘24 NA Ranger will be offered in the cab/bed configuration I want.

I had an F150. Nice little XL base model but the reg cab got cramped quickly and got tired of having stuff (groceries, mainly...) in the bed bouncing around.

Plus, the transmission and Tcase were leaking ATF which would be a $1,800 repair.... I was making payments as it was, and dealer gave me an okay trade for the ranger order (I won't go on that rant...).

$480/ mo for a used 2017 F150 xl
or
$510/ mo for a new 2022 ranger

seemed logical.

For Me it was a new F150 just like yours and the Ranger Scab I eventually ordered and purchased. Both vehicles are about the same length, so they fit comfortably in my garage. Like you the cramped cabin was the deciding factor and the $5k diff price
sealed it.

Pretty much price only. I live in the midwest and have a big enough garage to fit either truck. The F150 tows more, can fit rear facing child seats better, and has more room in the bed, has far better standard equipment, and the MPG is about the same with the 2.7 V6. BUT, and XL with 4x4, crew cab, tow/payload package, and rear locker, it was like 48K. So, I was willing to compromise on those things and buy closer to the minimum of what I need rather than what I want.

Similar to others here, the two biggest issues I had with the F150 were the size and the cost.

I used to have a 2003 F150, and one of my only regrets in life was selling it. The new Ranger is about 7/8 the size of the older F150, and the new F150 is just way too big.

As far as price is concerned, a similarly equipped F150 Lariat is around $20,000 more than the Ranger. Sure you might be able to get a better deal on one, but you could buy another car for the price difference.
I still have an 01 F150 Scab which I purchased new and just received a 2023 Ranger i had
ordered earlier. I agree that generation of F150 was a perfect combination of size, value
and reliability and wish you could get the same package today, although the ranger is close. The present F150 Scab like you said is too bulky and expensive now.
Have almost 400000 miles on the F150 with only an alternator and exhaust manifold
replacement on the driveline.
Sadly rust has taken its toll on her, will keep her around for a while longer.

From a storage perspective I went from an 01 F150 Scab to a 23 Ranger Scab and did not
feel I lost much space in the back of the cab and the cargo box.
That said A 2013 F150 Scab and I presume a new F150 Scab would have rear cab area was at least 4 inches longer than My 01 Scab so it may make more of a difference in your case.

Like a lot of others, size and off road abilities were the main reasons for me. Living in Denver at the time I bought Rex, parking a full size truck would have been crazy. I had mostly been an SUV guy (I miss my Gen 1 Explorer so much) and wanted to wait for the Bronco but just couldn’t wait any longer. Glad I picked the Ranger though because I later on decided to buy a travel trailer and the Bronco wouldn’t have been able to tow it. Price wasn’t a deciding factor but in hindsight the price difference between the Ranger and a full size truck or a Bronco would have be substantial.

Simple as that for me. I have no restriction on size that affects parking. But I do have restrictions on my spending.

Honestly, some of my biggest reasons were:
1) everybody and their grandpas got an F-150 (I enjoy driving them though).
2) The Ranger is a damn good looking truck. Dunno why, but all the other midsizers have the geometry all wrong. the ranger’s got some really nice lines to look at (esp. my scab ?).

As you can see, the current Ranger is almost the same size as my ‘02 F-150.
I had a 1997 F150 extended cab 4x4. The 97-03 F150 is 5 inches wider than the 19+ Rangers. The big difference for me is fitting the Ranger in my garage versus the 97 F150. The F150 was the extended cab long bed version so it had a 7 foot bed on it. Plus it had a homemade brush guard made from 3" steel tubing. While it did fit in the garage, there was not much room to spare.

And as others have stated, it is easier to park the Ranger in crowded lots compared to the F150. And even on a bad day (towing a heavy trailer) my Ranger XLT FX4 still gets way better fuel mileage then the 97 F150 ever did. My F150 had the 4.6L V8. While it was a dependable motor, it was definitely NOT big enough for a truck. The F150 got 14 MPG no matter how I drove it or what I hauled.
