This is an interesting statement. What is it specifically about the 2.3 that you like better than the 2.7? Most people I've seen seem to want the 2.7 (I'm guessing due to more power and torque). I really like the 2.3 mated to the 10 speed.
I really dislike the 2.7 in the F150 which is where you get most of the deals. It does not drive the same as the 3.5 in the f150, and I don't understand the point of the engine (gimmicky). It doesn't provide enough power to justify the upgrade in a Ranger sized vehicle. The 2.3 seems to be better proportioned in my opinion. If you're towing in the f150 at all, the 2.7 gives you less and at worse fuel mileage.

Similar to others here, the two biggest issues I had with the F150 were the size and the cost.

I used to have a 2003 F150, and one of my only regrets in life was selling it. The new Ranger is about 7/8 the size of the older F150, and the new F150 is just way too big.

As far as price is concerned, a similarly equipped F150 Lariat is around $20,000 more than the Ranger. Sure you might be able to get a better deal on one, but you could buy another car for the price difference.

My 4x4 is stock and I feel like I'm pretty close to the height of also-stock F150's. When I look over at an F-150 passenger it's pretty close to eye contact. (I just googled it and it's less than 5" difference in height.) So that is to say the Ranger does not feel to me like a small truck. I am, however, coming from the reverse perspective of you @Hydrophilic - where this is one of the largest vehicles I've ever owned. My only other pickup truck I've owned was a 1991 Ranger and that was quite a bit smaller from memory.

As for bed capacity: a 4x2 Scab can take 1,860 lbs in the bed and a 4x4 Scab can take 1,650 lbs. That in my mind is a pretty big tree branch! ?

Just as most said... Size and cost. My Ranger is basically the size of my 2001 Cummins was (minus the 8' bed) and I thought that was big.

For cost, I would have done the 3.5L Ecoboost and by the time I optioned it to what I wanted, it was a $65k gas truck. I paid $29k for my Ranger after incentives and going through Granger.

I initially got the Ranger for its smaller size and manuverabilty, but reached a point where the extra space was needed.

I traded it in for a 22 F150 Powerboost hybrid and do miss the smaller size and turn radius in a parking lot at times, but otherwise I'm loving the change. Took a weekend trip with all three dogs and it wasn't a complete shit show trying to get everyone to fit. It also has a lot of features I wished the Ranger even offered, like a power rear slider and Sync 4.

The pup approves it though.

traded my 15 yr old f-150 lariat for my 2019 anger lariat. at the time, f-150 xl base model was about the same price as my ranger lariat plus the size was right for me. Easy decision.

Size is the main reason I choose the Ranger.
Before getting a Ranger, I looked at the Maverick pickup and it was too small then at the F150 it was too big. The Ranger is just the right size.

The Ranger was my first new pickup and I chose it for size and cost like everyone else. What I didn't expect was how peppy and nimble it is. Never had a turbo before and I am having a blast tooling around in this thing. The mpg has been really decent as well.

It's been a bonus. Along with a cavernous center console and eleventy-billion cubby holes. And torque, lots of it.. ? On the down side, sticker was 30k more than I paid for the Ranger...

The next gen Ranger looks to cover a few gaps, but I just couldn't wait for it. And still would have the same size issues that made me switch.

That said, I loved my Ranger for the 2ish years I had it. Other than a clunky trans, zero complaints. Looks like the dealer sold it already, so someone out there is enjoying it at least. ?
