When I bought mine I just wanted to drive! Who needs instructions? But seriously the owners manual of today is so huge, and so many features, especially on the Lariat. And since I didn't get a paper manual I have to read the online version which on your phone is like microfiche, I haven't got through all of it yet but look up things when I discover something new. I think I understand the important stuff ?
iv'e never read one either but it is smart to do a dry run as if you have a flat tire, try doing that in the dark for the first time

This is probably stupid and well know by other people but...

Wow! I've owned my Ranger since 2019 and I've never noticed this! The gear your in is displayed to the left of the in dash screen on the XLT. It was pretty interesting watching how short of a time it spends in any gear during normal surface street driving.

I noticed a couple of years ago but almost watched it so closely that if it had not been for accident avoidance, I likely would have rearended someone...so I don't pay much attention to it any more

So all this time you never seen this on your dash? Your were a cop too. Not very perceptive are you? ? ?

They all do this. lol On the Lariat you have to push the side button on the shifter for it to appear.

Hey Glocker!

You're not the "Lone Ranger" in this discovery!

I bought my XLT Dec, 2019. My gears are not displayed on my dash, UNLESS I push the button on the gear shift, or have it in Sport Mode.
I didn't discover that I could "turn on" the gear display until recently, too! I like it! Thanks for your post, Glocker!!

At 9700 miles and fifteen months I discovered that I have "lane keeping". Just this past Saturday.
So I can relate.

I never noticed you can manually shift in D mode with the +/- buttons. I thought it was only in S mode.

You can't. In D mode hitting the +/- will lock out the gears. In S mode hitting them will turn it to manual shifting.

I thought so too! But on my way into work this morning I did it on accident. I hit the (-) on the shifter and the gear selection popped up so I hit (-) again thinking it would go away and it downshifted. So I hit (+) a few times and I was in 7th gear. To get it to go back to normal I put it into S mode and then back to D.

Ill try again on my way home to confirm it worked or confirm I need more coffee before my drive into work!

I was on my way home from the dealership, having just bought my Ranger, when I discovered the lane keeping assist. I felt like my truck's steering was jacked up and I was really disappointed I was going to have to go back to the dealership to get it fixed. When I got home I googled Ranger steering problems and found out it was lane keeping assist steering my truck! ?

Here’s my favorite thing so far I couldn’t find in the manual- the dash dimness/brightness switches next to the headlight wheel

Reading these confessions makes me wonder if you folks are really "car guys" or just old farts who stumbled upon the forum whilst trying to find another chrome plated Mickey Mouse, Made In China, POS, DeeZee product to paste onto your pick 'em up truck.
