You have to also be aware of the offset. My local tire store could not find any aftermarket steelies for our trucks in 17".

if you smell coolant near the catalytic converter, I'd guess it's a head gasket. I would take a sniff at the tail pipe when you see the white smoke just to make sure the smell is in the exhaust. just to be sure.

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble. If you're mechanically inclined and care to dig into it, it looks like 10 screws to remove the inner tailgate cover and take a peek. I'd be interested in seeing some pictures and share what you find.

Orange was used on early 19 Rangers. Yellow on later 19 Rangers and on. According to the notes I've attached, Yellow can be mixed with orange.
